i am having off and on shooting pains through my head on my right side it comes and go, i have taken allergy medicine, pain medicine it helps for a while then the shooting pain comes back.

YOu could be suffering from a form of migraine I suffer from two types the one where you have sever pain in different sections of your head and the other one where you don't suffer any pain but you have sever weakness can't think the names of them but I would certain ally see your gp and get your eyes checked as your gp will tell you to do that

I had this kind of pain for over 5 days. I finally went to my chiropractor, who checked and found that my occipital bone in my head was out of alignment. She adjusted me twice the first day and I couldn't believe how much less pain I was in. She adjusted me once the next day and told me to take a couple of golf balls and lay with my head on them, with the balls between my neck and skull in the back of my head. Although the pressure hurt, I did it for about 5-10 minutes and could tell it helped after about an hour. I am pretty much pain free, without any drugs.
