Hi, I am 25 years old and I have pretty much same life as you with sickle cells. My meds are changed recently and I still have blood transfusions. I am grateful for each new day but there is a lot of pain. I inherited sickle anemia. I inherited two abnormal genes one from mom and on from dad. My doctor explained me that this cause that my red blood cells are more rigid and curved in the shape of the farm tool known as a sickle. That is how this disorder got the name.
