I was just prescribed xanax for my anxiety attacks and I have high hopes that this medication will help me broaden my possibilities in life. I have been stuck in my house for nearly a year because I have such anxiety. I never go out unless I absolutely have to. I normally use alcohol as a means of self-medication but my therapist says that alcohol use is strictly forbidden in combination with xanax. What are the side effects if I do it any way?

There is a reason why antidepressants are not allowed to be used in combination with alcohol. You become drunk faster and the alcohol can react to the xanax in really unpredictable manner. All kinds of things might happen. Really, you should not take xanax together with alcohol. I hope you will be able to stick to the recommended usage of xanax.
