I have been experiencing some scary symptoms for several weeks now. I've seen two different doctors, the first one twice a week apart. The first gave me ativan for managing anxiety, which i've used up. The second has gone along with that original diagnosis and also said that my symptoms could be from allergies, recommending claritin in the morning and zantac and benadryl at night to deal with my sleeping disturbances. In addition, if these didn't work, he gave me lexapro to deal with anxiety.
On to the symptoms:
it all started with a feeling of dizziness, almost lightheadedness. It wasn't the kind of dizziness that would make me fall; it was maybe more like disorientation.
Anyway, it has progressed. This original symptoms continued when I tried to sleep. When I laid down, it felt like I was falling backwards. I would have a hard time falling asleep and then would wake up several times in the night, sometimes panicked. Also, sometimes as I was falling asleep, I would jerk and wake myself up; I would also be scared because this seemed like something that shouldn't happen. It would take me a long time to get back to sleep when I woke up in the middle of the night.
New symptoms include feeling drowsy during the day, like the feeling one gets when just waking up except for a long time. This was sometimes accompanied by some big amounts of yawning. Also, this drowsiness combined with/caused a kind of brain fog, a feeling of detachment from everything around me that made it hard to focus. I would also describe this as feeling kind of dazed; there's very little cognitive loss. I can still do pretty much everything I ever did, and I took my college finals while feeling like this and got a 3.7 gpa for the semester.
Sometimes it feels like there's pressure in my sinuses, sometimes in the top of my head; sometimes the pressure is on the left or right side of my head, sort of a headache.
Could this be allergies? What can I do to fix it? As I said, the doctor thinks it's allergies combined with anxiety, but the claritin doesn't seem to be fixing the physical symptoms. Now what?

I have been experiencing very similar symptoms. For the past two weeks or so I've been feeling lightheaded and slightly dizzy (like you, I don't feel like I'm going to pass out or fall down). For a few days, I was in a fog and found it hard to focus. I have intermittent headaches that seem to start behind the eyes and then radiate out to the back of my head. I've been slightly fatigued, but have been able to function and go to the gym. I haven't had trouble sleeping, luckily. I went to see my doctor today, told him about my symptoms, and he didn't seem too concerned. He basically said I could be fighting a virus or allergies. He said he'd be more concerned if I came to him with these symptoms plus a noticeable loss of appetite, a fever, and sudden weight loss (none of which I've had). He told me to monitor myself for the next few weeks and that if these symptoms continue or get worse, they'll start running some tests. I hoping they'll clear up soon.

i have been feeling the same thing you have about a couple months ago... except i think they have gotten worse for me. Im hoping mine are caused by allergies because i have severe allergies. Going back to my allergy doctor to take shots and hoping that it will help. If not i will probably go see a gp. If the allergy shots help, ill definately let you know maybe you can do the same?

well i got the shots today.. and i asked the lady who gave me the shots about my symptoms and said that it is most likely not allergies.. but she did mention about some kind of sinus infection might be the problem however my sinuses are clear right now so if yu got major sinus problems that might be your answer.. anyways... the nurse told the doctor who works there and he told me that i should prolly schedule a appointment with him cuz it could be serious so imma go see him next week... im prayin that theres somethin wrong with me cuz i dont want it to be some mental-anxiety bullsh*t.... tell yu how that goes after i see him...

I had severe headaches for 2 months and I thought i had a brain tumour, eventually got a brain mri scan after constantly going to my doctor about this. The scan showed a dark area on the front of my brain and the doctor said its congestion but i am not too sure what it is. I then got sectioned under the mental health act and am on medication which is stupid i think due to having physical problems not mental. all the best
