Hi, I'm sixteen years old and I have been waiting for my period to come... for a while. I have one of those super-thin, tall bodies and I heard somewhere that you may not get your period if you are very thin. Nothing else is wrong with me developmentally, I have had pubic hair for years and breast growth. I asked my mother and she said that she started late too, at the age of 16. But I'm concerned because nothing has happened yet. Here's my height and weight, if that helps. I am 5'7" and I weigh 104lbs. (I have been trying to gain weight for at least a year but nothing has worked.) I don't really want to go to my doctor, it makes me uncomfortable.

Hi hon: Your weight is obviously just genetic - as you have tried to put weight on and can't - also your period will be too. Most mothers and daughters, and all the other women in the family have similar reproductive stories, including starting age of the menses and menopause, cramps etc. Sometimes it can take till you are about 17/18 to get your period. So don't worry too much about it. Since the rest of you has already gone through puberty, the menses will catch up too. Then you will wonder why you EVER wanted it to start ;-) XD Give it another 6 months, IF there is nothing you can actually take some herbs to get it going - ask a health nutrionist. I would rather a young girl like yourself go herbal before going to a doctor who would give you estrogen pills to bring it on. Also another thing that can delay or interupt your period is stress. So if you have been worried about anything right now, just know that this might have something to do with it too. You'll be fine OK? Good luck hon, if you need any other information just ask!

I totally agree with Bambi.. I didn't get my period until I was almost 18. I have always had super irregular and sporratic periods. Other than an ovarian cyst I haven't had anything else wrong with me. I had hormonal testing done and everything was fine. I have had perscriptions to start and stop my period but honestly it should all come together naturally. Based on your weight and height your BMI is 16.3 which is underweight which sounds like it is just something genetic for you (I wish I had that problem) LOL. I have also read articles indicating that being underweight can interrupt your menstrual cycle. So that may be contributing to it. I finally started getting semi regular periods this year and I am almost 23. So hang in there.
