"I am an advocate for male circumcision?" so says the poster above -says it all really- clueless individual

Circumcision is an unacceptable and outdated practice and as far as hygiene goes- its benefits are minimal if any (none have been proven either)- and the resulting complications can lead to a lifetime of agony or serious operational wound infections resulting in disfigurements and lifetime scarring and discomfort- in extreme cases amputation of part of the penis may be necessary!- yes i said penile amputation!
Also remember all surgeons are not created equal!! and anyone can slip........

However, in some cases circumcision is necessary as some people are born with overtight and painful natural foreskin.

Do not listen to the above poster they do not know what they are talking about and are presenting some old wives tales dressed as science.

The "circumcision is cleanly" is a myth perpetuated by American medical establishment for reasons that are beyond me and some dosctors who i know- It makes them rather angry in fact and rightfully so....just think about it ...amputation!

surgery should never be taken so lightly, it is always life threatening in a small way to start cutting the body no matter how routine the surgery as some people have hidden complications such as keyloid scarring(where scar tissue forms uncomfortable lumps)- or blood clotting disorders that go undiscovered until surgery.

Overproduction of smegma can often have a fungal cause- otherwise known as thrush.

A little oil buildup in the area under the foreskin is necessary for a healthy penis.....

Smegma does have a purpose!

Doctors advise against overwashing(I know because i asked a good one!) this part of the penis with aggressive soaping-
warm water alone is recommended by the doctors in the know, as the natural oils your penis produces actually have some natural anti-bacterial properties and overwashing (just like overwashing female genitalia also) can lead to excessive build up of bacteria that can cause smegma caused by the bacteria that feeds on your dead skin cells) and an unpleasant and musky odour.

Its the same situation in some females- powerful fishy smells can actually be caused by a build up of bacteria caused by overwashing and in a self-fulfilling cycle :
-you wash because you smell----> the washing can make the smell MORE persistent not less so you wash more and maintain the problem as you are washing away the natural anti-bacterial oils and with them the natural protection they bring

Strange but very true-

I had an ex girlfriend whom i eventually broached the subject with (very carefully and tactfully mind! i can tell you!) and after the initial discomfort at the discussion (and plate throwing) she thanked me profusely a week later as it had been a very sensitive subject for her since puberty which this little fact helped eradicate.

It also meant great long bouts of cunnilingus! winners all round!

If your smegma problem is very bad- go see your doctor or apply a course of thrush cream like the poster suggests above.
(When i had a problem i used tea tree oil as it is a natural antifungal- I must advise against this as whilst it helped with the smegma ..its very caustic and it burns like hell! not good on the sensitive wee fella).

When taking any medicine -even just thrush cream always read the label and watch for any side effects.

can we have a doctor to confirm some of this please? and to refute some of the nonsense in some of the other posts!

Charles II is correct. The best cure for smegma accumulation is either surgical circumcision or auto circumcision, ie permanent foreskin retraction.

I've had mine permanently retracted since puberty and I have no problems with smegma. The last time I saw smegma was when I was 15.

I have not had problems with smegma (i.e. odor, white film/shed) until two, to three years ago I am now 30, do the math; In fact I did not even know it existed I guess it depends on the individual on how and when and/or if one experiences it. After reading these posts and a few other sites I am relieved to know that it is nothing more than excessive skin shed accumulation and bacterial growth. At least this is what I extracted amongst the uneducated banter and the advocation of circumcision. And no I am not speaking blindly after little research, dead skin and bacteria is exactly what I thought I was experiencing before I learned the word smegma. (Is this even a real word?). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Why do I say this? The white shed and accumulation of the dead skin cells made sense to me because I noticed the area between the foreskin and gland (head) of the penis to be drier and not have the natural lubrication it used to. This in turn creates more friction and the shedding of dead skin cells; make sense?  Also to note I have developed poor skin conditions over the past few years and have few dry flakey patches of skin on my hands and leg and feet, (quite possibly psoriasis) maybe I'm just drying up. As a result I’m going to try cleaning the area without soap as to not remove the natural oils and lubricants and see if this helps.

As we all know bacteria love and thrive in warm and moist environments and with added food source of organic matter (dead skin cells) bacteria can accumulate in greater numbers and faster. Another fun fact; bacterial byproducts/waste/poo creates odor e.g. Bad breath, stinky armpits both results of bacterial growth and 100% natural.

As posted above by “not a doctor but im very clever”, I have also once tried to treat the area with Tea Tree (Maleluca) oil for its antibacterial properties. Had I read the above post I may have not tried this cause yes it does burn as expected, knowing the substance I was using I tried this in the shower where I could immediately flush the area with water. I believe it did prolong the process of “smegma” accumulation but do not suggest trying this method as I do not know the long term effects of regular treatments, this was not suggested to me by a doctor just my own curiosity, experience with and understanding of the properties of the oil, frankly I am surprised someone else has even tried this. Ask your doctor, I’ll ask mine.

And of course, I am not a doctor, nor do I have any PhDs or degrees in any form of science, but I am human and humans study things and draw conclusions through knowledge, trial and error, cause and effect, experience and research of others experiences. That makes us all scientists and sort of like doctors, and doctors like us can be wrong as well (hence the saying “Get a second opinion”).

I could be totally wrong I am still open to consider otherwise (e.g. diet, medication; byproducts of food you eat in your urine may aid in production of smegma, we can’t overlook this), albeit this is what makes sense to me and I would definitely consider any other method of controlling a natural process before I consider the often unnecessary removal the foreskin. And why I say often unnecessary and not totally is because it is sometimes necessary, like if it is part of your religion and/or necessary to fit into a certain social/cultural standing. Or; if you are going into the porn industry, for aesthetics and probably, may be less prone to contraction of diseases. (Actually the industry uses other methods to minimize fluid transfer i.e. The same form of birth control we all may have used at one time or another, “pulling out” not 100% effective you still have precum). When fornicating with numerous unmentionables, this is a dangerous method of “protection”. Here’s a few more ideas, wear a condom or don’t f**k that wh*re. Only an id**t would think “I don’t have foreskin I won’t contract an std”, or “he has smegma I’m gonna get a disease”. From my understanding women also produce smegma and have odors they are often ashamed of as well, sex smells we are animals, animals smell, plants and flowers smell nice as well as the chemicals we use to control our bodily odors i.e. Deodorant, toothpaste, etc. (now I am not saying not to use these products, please do :)

Getting back on track If you are experiencing issues with smegma I highly doubt you are going to get cancer or die from it, but always ask your doctor you may be confusing smegma with something else (Like the m****s that diagnosed cancer as a result of it). Remember to think outside the box and do not base your conclusions on just one post such as this one. I still need a better understanding of what smegma is before I make any final conclusions for myself and nowadays its often harder to get the truth with all the confusion, myths, and relaying of misinformation. I hope this makes sense and I am open to criticism, and correction this is how we learn.

Yea bud, you are on the right track. As you put in more practice with the skin pulling and exploring yourself, the skin will become loose and easy to pull back. As with all men, as we get older nature send us a new present, your teenage present is the joy of pleasure and feelings another joy that come with it is Smegma. It also has a smell so remember to wash up after use. A mild soap should do the job. It’s just nature’s way of taking care of what helps perpetuate the species and make things feel good. Enjoy…..

I used to suffer with reacurrant prostatitus like symptoms and urinary tract like infections and red soreness under the foreskin .  I have CURED them all by rubbing some conotrane under my foreskin after I bath.  I have been symtom free for a year since doing this .

Conotrane  is sold in the uk as an anti bacterial soothing nappy cream.

Problem solved.

No redness under foreskin

no urinary tract burning pain.

no feeling like vim sitting on a golf ball (prostrate gland).

Im not sure why this works but it does for me.

I really believe you're very near the truth. I am personnally 45 y/o, and never experience smegma problem. I was tested for diabetes 5 years ago and was just under the limit (6,9% for HbA1). I freaked out and never returned for a new check 3 months later. (my grand-father suffered from diabetes, I knew it will be the and of my life style if diabetes would be confirmed !).
Since about 4 months, I live with this smegma problem ! Damn, before the end of the day, the head of my penis is completely white.
I suspected a fungus, but the doctor confirmed it was smegma and advise me to not wash it to often, and with no soap, or with soap without perfume.
I didn't tell him about my diabetes, but sure, the sweet urine, is the perfect food for bacteria.

So according to you, this problem can only get worst ?

I will try your solution, and see if it will help.

I will probably need to dry it with toilet paper too :-)

Thanks for your posting.

The best cure is to wash it fast - really fast - the faster the better :-)

Smegma wouldn't be so offensive if it didn't smell the way it does.  No one minds a bit of natural lubricant, but when it carries that kind of odor with it, it kind of detracts from the arousal factor.

Best solution:  Just wash before you get naked with a woman.  We gals do it too.  And if you're involved in an impulsive "quickie" situation, just do the deed and refrain from anything oral.  Just keep the girl's head away from "down there" and she'll likely not notice.

It is very good that you take care of your personal hygiene, especially in the genital areas.
But there is nothing like 'over production' of smegma. What is normal? There is no record. Whatever you produce is normal---as designed by god. Anyway, we cannot control nature or natural processes. Relax, you are normal.
I have been washing off smegma from the age of 8. I am 68 now!
