Yes. He should be on dialysis right now. The fact that he has not started any treatment suggests to me that perhaps he is uninsured and he does not have the money to pay for the treatment. Coenzyme Q10 is an over the counter supplement that has shown promise in treating end-stage kidney disease. Two double-blind placebo-controlled studies reported in the Journal of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (2000, 2003) showed that CoQ10, at a daily dosage of 180mg, significantly improved kidney functions in end-stage kidney patients compared to the placebo group. Kidney function had improved so much in the treatment group that some patients had gone off dialysis, whereas none in the placebo group had done so. Megadosed CoQ10 is available at your local drug stores and supermarkets in 150mg, 200mg, 300mg and 400mg soft gels.

Dialysis is free in the UK because the UK has a universal healthcare system, but it is not free in the United States. It has been estimated that 47 million people in the United States are uninsured. I have seen, on TV, actual video tapes of emergency vehicles dumping critically-ill indigent patients onto the street in the middle of the night, a phenomenon called "patient dumping". Reportedly, these patients either couldn't afford to pay, or their insurance payment had reached the limit. In the United States, healthcare is privitized, and hospitals have to make a profit in order to survive. It is all about the bottom line.
