The end of July I had surgery to repair a split peroneus brevis tendon in my ankle.  The surgeon had to shave down the bone that was causing the tendon to split.  He then repaired the tendon, which according to him had a slight tear.  I was sent home with a splint and told to keep off of it for 2 weeks.  After 2 days after the surgery when the nerve blocker wore off I noticed a lot of pain close to wear the incision was.  After 10 days he removed the splint, he saw there was no infection by the incision and put me in a walking boot.  I wore the boot for 3 days and kept feeling the pain by that area. The weight of the very big boot kept rubbing on it every time I would lift my leg to walk.  It felt like a pinching soreness, and still does to this day.  I called the surgeon up and he told me that if I could not wear the boot, to take it off.  I was so confused by this statement.  He said that since the tear was so small it would be okay. This did not sound right to me, since originally he told me to wear the boot for 5 weeks.  I thought he was going to suggest something else that time. I asked him 3 times are you sure this will not interfere with my healing and he said not at all, that the boot was more for protection. I felt helpless at this time. I quickly realized that I could not walk without the boot without my foot hurting and burning.  I tried to wear the boot and deal with the pain for another week.   I then called and came to see the surgeon.  He looked at how swollen my ankle was and then said I had two options to either use crutches or he would put me in a walking cast.  He said it would be a better fit than the boot.  I have now been in the cast for 6 days and I still feel a pinching  pain when I try to walk in that same area that I have been complaining about from the beginning.  I also feel as others have described shock like sensation, which the surgeon said are probably nerve endings that are healing.  Before the surgery I really did not have any pain.  What brought me into the surgeon's office to begin with was my ankle would feel a little unstable from time to time and pop.  I am so concerned that this may never go away, especially after reading so many other similar posts from this forum. Has anyone had a similar experience, if so how long did it take to heal?  I look forward to any replies.

I am 4 weeks post peroneus brevis tendon surgery, and I am still experiencing nerve pain. I am concerned that it will never get better. I am in a walking boot, but not allowed to walk yet. Foot is extremely tender at the inscision site. I feel burning, tingling, and it's like that candy you put in your mouth that pops. Strange feeling. As anyone else experienced this?
