I was just on the internet searching stomach muscle spasms and came across all of these posts!!! I can't believe how many people are having this problem too! I have had this going on for four months now, ever since spinal fusion surgery - which was done through the stomach. I thought it was interesting to hear that this can be caused from nerve damage, which I do have. I wondered too if my surgeon will think I'm nuts when I tell him about this issue. This is why I wanted to do my own research first so I could make sure I didn't get blown off and/or basically told it has nothing to do with my surgery, even though I never had this before. I did have a baby a year and a half ago, but no c-section and no muscle spasms afterwards. When the spasms started, within a few days from surgery, I thought it was because when they go through your stomach for this surgery, they move everything to the side to get to your spine and I figured everything was just trying to get back to normal and in its place. But it's been 4 months now and just tonight, I have had this going on for hours!!! It is not a nice feeling at all. It doesn't exactly hurt at first, but it's very uncomfortable. After hours of it going on, it does start to hurt and my stomach just wants to REST! Just when I think it's over and I can finally relax, I get another spasm. They are totally random timewise. It could happen once a day or several times a day, spaced apart randomly too. I could have it happen just a few times, or all day or night like what I have going on now. I wish there was a way to make it stop because I definitely do not want to live with this forever. Like all of you, I'm glad I'm not alone on this and none of us are crazy!!!...well, except for that one person.....LOL

I am a 65 yr old woman. I had pacemaker/defibrillator surgery one week ago. I stayed in the hospital two nights. The very first night, I was awakened by thumping. At first I thought it was my heart pounding, but realized it was under my left breast and in my abdomin. When checked out, I was told everything was ok. I'm still having the thumping, especially when I get up and down or move in bed. You can see my abdomin move sometimes during a thumping spell. I was wondering if what I have is air trapped in my body following my surgery. I will see my surgeon tomorrow, so hope he can explain these strange spasms.

Hi. I am having the same thing - just recently - but I did have bowel surgery in 2003 to remove my caecum. Thank god I am not alone - but are there any responses here as to what it actually is...?

I am having the same symptoms. It feels like a baby is kicking in my upper abdomen right below my rib cage. I had a c-section 7 months ago and this just started about a week ago. I knew I couldn't be pregnant again and it was too high for a fetus to be kicking me. It has really had me worried and I am so glad I am not alone. I might go to my family doctor and see if he can give me some advice.

About three months ago I got that Mirena IUD inserted into my cervix and lately I have been feeling like movement in my abdomen and pain if I lay on my stomach! I had my daughter, naturally, one year ago! What could it be?

I am now 8 months postpartum and I swear they feel stronger I have it all through out the day EVERY day...it drives me crazy it feels exactly like when I was 6 months pregnant...it is so freaky. Before my pregnancy even with the worst gas I had never felt this before so I know it cant be gas...or a baby lol but still what exactly is it from...my dr. didnt seem to know?!

I so thought i was crazy! Just started on a new bc pill and thought that had something to do with it. It is awkwardly funny and kinda scary. It does feel like a baby jumpin around in there. But when it starts i can move just a little bit and it stops. My daughter is 4 and was a vaginal birth, and i never had this until now. Glad im not the only one though. Getting kinda aggravating though. Happens several times a day.

Hi I have never chatted on this site or any other site really but I was looking up something else and came across this page... I have also been having these spasms and kicking feeling for months...we do have one daughter that was stillborn and had a regular vaginal delivery not a c section that was in february of last year. I just wanted to let u all know that I have seen my doctor and had a sonogram.....he says it sounds like diverticulitis which is like something about pockets Inside of your intestines u can google it! But I have also been having slight pains sometimes more
Painful than others on both the left and right sides of abdomen. The sonogram I had looked normal thank god but he said for me to see a gastrointologist if the kicking feeling and pain kept up that was around a couple of months ago and it is still happening. I have a appointment with the gastrointologist on Monday we will see what he says! Hope this helps y'all and good luck to all of u!

I'm posting this becuase I have the same problem although I'm almost 18 and male, never had a sergury. I think I have IBS but this is something completely new, it may have something to do with diet! But I'm going to see a specialist soon and will deffinently bring this topic up! If I get any news from him I will most deffinently post it!

I have been driven mad by this fluttering in my colon for 9 years now. I have trapped nerves in my spine and pelvis, some caused by adhesions after a C section and hysterectomy. Recently as soon as the fluttering starts I get really severe nerve pain in my pelvis. With me the fluttering is definitely the colon going crazy and pushing gas down. I end up felling as if I'm sitting on a golf ball then have to pass gas. The fluttering only happens when I lie down so sleep is impossible. Going to see a pelvic pain specialist as soon as I can. When i had the hysetrectomy they stitched my bladder back to the spinal ligaments and I've had serious low spinal pain ever since. Has no one ever had a diagnosis or anyone say what this actually is? I know lumbar nerves control peristalsis in the low colon.

I've had this for three months. Because the pulsing is not in time with my heart beat and I feel otherwise fine, they said it was probably a muscle spasm. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Seriously be careful when you read these forums. I was convinced I was dying.... and it's just my muscle. It will be okay.
