I started using the pill when I was 14 because of heavy periods and cramping so painful that I would occasionally pass out. Since starting my periods have taken a complete turn for the better, periods lasting 5 days or less, and very minimal cramping. However, around the time I turned 16 I started having incredibly painful cramping around the second day of my period, which would last for an hour or so, and then as soon as it was over I would have passed a large piece of tissue. I showed one to my doctor eventually after explaining that they are not clots, and she was very confused and said that they looked like the tissue one passes when having a miscarriage. Here is the kicker, I have never had sex, so unless every month I experience a random immaculate conception followed by a miscarriage, there is something else going on here. This has been going on for nearly four years now, and I have mostly come to terms with the fact that I pass a creepy fleshy thing most every period.

If your worried go to your doctor, I had the same problem, went to the docs and i have pelvic inflammatory disease, i have inflammation of my falopian tubes and they are covered in fluid, and the clotting is the fluid from that. i had pain in my pelvis and ovary area, pain when ovulating as well as this clotting. so if u have any concerns go to your doc because it can cause problems when trying for a baby if untreated!

Just wanted to say thank you thank you THANK YOU to whoever it was who suggested a decidual cast. I was freaking out when after the most severe cramps of my life I passed a large piece of strange tissue. I's never seen anything like it and I was worried in case something dreadful had happened to my uterus. After someone mentioned the possibility of a decidual cast I looked up the link, and apparently the distinctive decidual tissue is formed from the uterine lining in the presence of progesterone - of which I had been taking the synthetic version norethisterone for four weeks while I was working outdoors this summer to postpone my period. Phew!! After having a chat with a doctor friend on the phone she confirmed this to be the most probable reason by far.

Progestin is also found in the combined contraception pill and the mini pill which gives a very good clue as to why so many of the ladies in this thread have experienced the same thing after going on birth control for the first time. Anyone reading this try not to panic, it could be as simple as that! See your doctor obviously but try not to freak out too much :)

If you are sexually active and have missed even just one pill, maybe your body is aborting a baby. Thats what the pills do. Everyday you take them. So if you have missed one, it could be possible that you were pregnant, even for one day.

This is very false. The pill fools the body into thinking it ovulated (released an egg) so that a egg is not released. It does not cause abortions. There is absolutely no evidence supporting that. (At one point it was hypothesized that because the uterine lining was thinner when on the pill that it would be harder to implant, evidence has not supported that thought and that is where the pill=abortion myth came from.)
Missing a pill or being late on a pill can allow ovulation however. So it is important to be mindful of the time your taking it.
If you're concerned you should talk to your doctor. Sometimes white clumps are found in people taking the pill that are simply a shedding of the uterine lining in sections. I've experienced it and been alarmed but for me it was nothing. However, if there is something different going on for you it's important to talk to your doctor about it. (Especially since it's causing you to have longer periods. You might want to talk about other birth control options to see if even a different pill might work better for you.) Also, always a good idea to check with a doctor if you're dealing with an unusual odor.

the pill does not abort a baby. it prevents ovulation, thins the lining of the uterus and thickens cervical mucus- which could be what you are experiencing. please women, i know this is a forum, but do not post information you are unsure of. do a little bit of research.

Hi, My fiance and I are sexually active, we have un protected sex, she was on birth control from last year September up until about more than a month ago. The birth control she used was an injection that stopped her from ovulating for 2 months at a time, so each 1st of every 3de month she'd go for it. To get back to the point, just little over a month ago she didn't go for birth control shot and about 5 days later started her period, but this time it didn't just last 4-6 days, but is currently going on 29 days, she noticed this morning that there was a small (half the size of a pinky nail) white gooey like thing on her tampon. She is freaking out 1st cause her period is going on for almost a month and now she saw the white thing.. Does anyone have any idea what this might be, or what the cause of her prolonged period might be? She is going to the doc the day after tomorrow, but I fear she might not tell her GP what exactly is happening etc etc. Please do reply and/or help

I have had sex three times. Regrettably only once with a condom. But the other two times I took the morning after pill. Yesterday I started my first period after taking the pill the 2nd time. Today I took out my tampon and a tamponish shape came out with a "string" like thing on the end. Did I just miscarry? It was red and tissue like. I'm very much freaked out right now.

Hey guys I just had this happen to me, I am not on the pill, unfortunately I stopped taking it due to pains in my pelvic region. Anywhom yesterday is when I first noticed the weird smelling and looking 'clot' so to speak, and it was weird cause I thought oh it's my period clot no big deal, it made sense because I totally was having cramps, more severe than usual. (keep inmind im like 6-7days late) and yes sexually active, so this morning when I went to the restroom, I noticed the clots smelt very strange, and yes I even smelt it to make sure. So I wiped again and a bigger clot came out but these weren't like a normal period clot, so I was a big confused, these were clearish/pinkish/light red. So I kept observing and noticed it wasnt jelly like it was more tissue like. And I've been off the pill since January 17th 2012. And the last I was active without protection was four weeks ago. Am I miscarrying? Or just having a period? Please help

I too just had this happen to me. Im glad I read this post! I was freaking out. I am on Apri and have been for a few years. I was have bad pains all day. I do wear tampons so I didn't know if that was it. I had two membraney pieces come out, also red but pink and clear elasticity. My pains are gone. I asked my friend and she said you are probably feeling the uterine wall peeling. She was right. I do feel better about it after reading this. Thanks ladies.
