Has ANYONE here found a solution to this? A cause or diagnosis of any kind at all? I have the same problem, and in addition to this, I often have sharp stabbing pains in the same area, usually followed by a dull ache. This has gone on for years with no solution.

Anybody?

It sounds like you have SUNCT, a rare neurological that can be treated with the right medication. Suggest it to your doctor.

It sounds like reverse Lhermittes sign where you get a shooting or electric sensation that shoots upwards from the base of the head and you don't want to move your head for awhile after it happens

After reading all of these posts, I have tried to uncover likely reasons for my neck and head pain. I woke up from a uterine ablation procedure with a severe 10/10 frontal headache approximately 4 weeks ago. From that day on I developed severe unilateral pain in my left neck. The pain radiates upward and towards my ear and behind my eye and top of scalp. My pain worsens with any movement. The shooting pain lasts 5 seconds to more when I stand or turn my head. I have achy dull and throbbing pain at rest. I wake up with the pain being more severe in the morning.
I have been undergoing physical therapy with little relief. My PT says I have "hypermobile joints".. I did have cortisone injections 4 days ago in my occipital nerve regions because I was desperate. I have not had relief after these.
I have also developed new onset hypertension in the last 4 weeks. I am 34 active, normal weight. My blood pressure is now controlled with antihypertensive, however, I am still having same pain. My CT was normal. I am desperate. I had a bout with this same problem only less severe approximately a year and a half ago. Please, any suggestions!! :-(

Hi folks,

I have had severe head pain that starts at the base of my neck at left and transfers to top left of my head. Now I have severe cracking sounds when I turn my head to the left...almost like my head is on a swivel base and the grinding sound AND feeling with resulting pain is unbearable sometimes.

At times the pain transfers to the top left of my cranium and is dull to sharp pain.
Hellllllllllllllllllp.! Rae

Okay so this isn't necessarily a reply to your post in particular, but I'm on mobile so its too hard to find where to comment. Its really bothering me seeing all these responses about everyone having the same issues, but no answers. I'm 16 and I'm having the same problems, accompanied with a sharp neck pain when I lie down. I suffered whiplash in august and have been exercising excessively (well, a lot recently seeming as I was unable to for a few months) and the best advice I can give to anyone is the problem is not your head, its your neck which leads to your back. Try going and getting a massage or a chiropractic adjustment if you haven't already done so. I've been told by my doctor specifically after my car accident that every problem you have in your head or neck relates to the issues you're having in another part of your back. I know how the sharp pains behind your eyes go when you quickly move your head and what not, its pretty uncomfortable and slightly annoying because of how unexpected it is. So, that's why I wanted to give a possible cure or explanation to what is going on because as far as I read down everyone wanted an answer and no one seemed to provide any. If this doesn't work, I'm sorry. In my case I feel like it would help. I haven't tried it yet, but with neck pains and back soreness along with the headaches it seems reasonable to get realigned or have the muscles massaged. Again, that could just be from my recent exercise (approx 2 months) but I assume I would have felt the side affects of exercising sooner than this is that's the case. But overall, it couldn't hurt to get your back checked out no matter how old you are and massages are always a form of relaxation and might help relieve some stress that could be causing the headaches.

same but my face doesn't swell. All I have to do is suddenly move to fast; like simply going up the stairs and I get intense head pains that feel somewhat like head aches but in a way are different. Usually these pains do not go away even when I sit down and sometimes last for a hour at a time. It effects my working out and I really want an answer. My relatives thought it was lack of nutrition or a reaction but im still not very sure what is going on. If u got the answer please inform me!

I'm only 17 and have been getting these for about 2 years. They're not like headaches though, I had it three times today and when it happens it's extremely painful for up to a minute and I can't move my head and the left side of my body and face goes numb. I'm really worried :/

I don't know if it's something like these ''cluster headaches'' or something more serious and I'm worried about going to the doctor. Can anyone help? :(

hi i have the same pain ,darting up back of head i dont take any supplement,i do think if your under stress your body gets tight ,then when you move to sudden your neck and head are not relaxed then you get the stricking pain.

I too have suffered with this from childhood. I don't suffer from the eye soreness or take suplements either. It is definately not cluster headaches. Im sure it isn't anything sinister as i am now 54 and although I experienced an episode last year...have gone many years without anything. So I can only assume it is to do with nerves in the neck. So I wouldn't worry too much!!

I have the same thing, also happens when playing basketball, maybe 2-4 times a year. It's like a pop in the back of my head immediately followed by radiating pain that feels like a small hot water balloon exploded in my head, it's gone in about 5-10 seconds ... I'd really like to know what it is. None of the comments suggesting what it might be seem to be it...

My seven year old grandson has done this since he was a baby several times a year........stops what he's doing and holds his head, cried hard when he was younger for about half a minute, then continues to play. Yesterday when it happened he said his head and ear tingled for a few minutes. This really worries me.

Hello,

I'm a 15 year old and i have been getting this headache where when I move my head I get this sudden, sharp, and hot pain toward the back of my head.  I have these every few months and they are random.  They range for about 10 seconds to 10 min, but most of the pain drains away for the longer headachs after a few min.  I have not seen a docter about this before because up till reently, a few years ago, the pain would only last for about a min.  However, lately they have been getting longer and more painful, so I decided that i would look it up on the internet.  These headaches are also immobilizing (Which is more than a little awward if i get it in school or a church), so I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me something about what I have and what I can do to stop these.  Thanks,

   -Jacob
