I see a lot of people describing their pain but not a lot of suggestions, so I thought I would share one, and this is only for the people who have the most intense pain. There is something called Trigeminal Neuralgia, (aka Tic Douloureux or prosopalgia).
"Characterized by episodes of intense facial pain that last from a few seconds to several minutes or hours. To describe the pain sensation, patients may describe a trigger area on the face so sensitive that touching or even air currents can trigger an episode. It affects lifestyle as it can be triggered by common activities such as eating, talking, shaving and brushing teeth. The attacks are said by those affected to feel like stabbing electric shocks, burning, pressing, crushing, exploding or shooting pain that becomes intractable. "
Not sure how helpful this is to anyone, but I thought I'd share a suggestion then to add to the list of symptoms.

Hello, I have experienced a shooting pain in the right side of my head. It went all the way through the side of my head. I had shot a rifle the day before, without ear protection, and i am assuming that, that is the reason why I had this shooting pain. Besides that, I was listening to my ipod when the shooting pain occured. I believe that the sound from my ipod stressed a nerve, that had already been stressed the day before, from the gun, and it caused the pain. When the pain happened, I thought it was about to have a seizure... It was such a strange feeling that I was screaming and i ripped the headphones out of my head.

Hi,
I have a pain above my left eye and around the right side of my forehead. It is very INTENSE. It feel like pressure is built up in my head and I feel that have to let it out or I cannot concentrate and don anything else but think of the pain. I try blocking my nostrils and pushing air out to get the pressure out. Last time I tried this... only after I heard a "sound from my brain" ( like pressure was being released or basically how it sounds when you open a Coke bottle) the pain went away. I know this is not normal.
I have been to hospital several times and the doctors don't know what it is. I even went to a specialist eye hospital who said nothing was wrong with my eyes.
A specialist ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) doctor thought I had Pollips in my nose and gave me steriods, but this did nothing to my problem, as it came back.
The pain comes and goes every few months. The last time I had this problem was in May/June 2010. The time beofre that was Xmas day 2009.
I work in front of a computer for 8 hours a day and I wear glasses. But the Optician said its not a problem with my eyes.
As a temporary measure of relief, I try pushing my forehead from right to left and left to right to try and release pressure in my brain.
Can anyone help me diagnose what I may have?
I've head this problem now for over 2 years.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Kunal

I get the stabbing pain in my head, anywhere. But from doing much research and scared it might be an anurism I have found out that it seems like its "Ice pick headaches" They only last for seconds and go away. As your body is all connected, I find I get them less when I get rid of all the knots in the shoulder/neck/back by going to a massage therapist or getting a friend to knead the c**p outta you.

I know this post is old but perhaps I feel I should say this.
I too have intense pain in my head. Now I understand pain the head can come from lots of different things but this pain is NOT healthy. Randomly, and rarely (about once a month) I'll hear a light pop in the back of my head, seemingly at the bottom of the brain. The pain is only on the right hand side and when the pop happens, it's almost as if I lose consciousness. I don't know if it's because of some sort of nervous system malfunction, or if it's just because my body goes into shock from the intense pain. After I "come to" the pain persists and very slowly fades over the next thirty minutes. After that though, the pain is gone for good so it's not a headache type pain. I feel very vulnerable and helpless at this time. If we can get some light shed on this situation I'd be grateful.

am having horrible shooting pains up the back of my head every 30 seconds. They came and went last week, but I got the flu and pnuemonia and they are back worse. Nothing prescription wise is touching them. It is totally debilitating. I was in a car wreck on 9-11-11 and had two cracked vertebrae in my neck. What can I do? The doctors just shake their heads and hope it gets better.

I've read your posts and I have been getting stabbing pain on the right side of my head for the past few weeks. It started after i was put on an aspirin regiment. the pain started as just a stabbing pain but now it feels as though it's always hurting. i have stopped taking the aspirin hoping it would go away but its still with me. I hope someone would be able to give me an idea of what to do, :'(

i've also experienced the same sudden shooting pain at the back of my head, it can be left or right, although it is usually right and it is more intense on that side. it's usually over in just a few seconds. the pain numbs very quickly but occasionally i lose my sight for a second or two and i feel slightly dizzy. i'm 18 now and its been happening for a good 5 years, although it doesnt happen too frequently. like other people have said, theres no warning and quite inconsistant, sometimes once or twice a week sometimes not for months at a time.
i'm a little concerned as my father died of a brain tumor when i was 2, he was 30. i havent seen a doctor as it doesn't hinder me at all. is it connected? or is it just a minor thing?

i also get this pain They're "ice pick headaches." They are short, stabbing, extremely intense headaches that can be absolutely terrifying. They generally only last between five and 30 seconds. However, they come out of nowhere, can strike anywhere on the head, literally feel as if an ice pick is being stuck into your head, then disappear before you can even figure out what's happening. The pain can also seem to occur in or behind the ear

I too have had these shooting pains for about a year. They are very random and seem infrequent, and some weeks I have more shootings than others. I'm only 18 years old, and this worries me. %-)

Could be referred pain from a nerve in your neck or shoulder. It happens to me sometimes... and when it does I can recreate the pain by pushing on a certain spoton the back right side of my neck near where it meets the shoulder.
