The pain in my head Just started yesterday and has happened about 10-15 times already. It is on the Right side, starts at the top of my neck and shoots up to the top of my ear.
Has anyone seen a doctor? I have a follow up doctors appointment scheduled for Friday which is in 4 days and plan to mention it. I just hope it is nothing serious.

well im a guy and im 31. ITs all new to me and it sorta worries me. I am setting up an appointment with a doctor to give me a cat scan. I have been under a lot of stress at my job lately and when i come home its hard to sleep. I guess making my new situation worse.

This all started about a good 4 days ago when suddenly i felt a very sharp shooting pain zip up the right side of my neck to my head. it hurt so bad my neck was numb a bit. it happend twice at work. i do paper work at a bank. Then a day later thats when i got a huge pulsing feeling on one side of my head. the top left side but close to my ear. it hurt so bad im not gonna lie i felt like crying like a wuss. but no one could tell cuz i was hiding the pain. it happens like when i bend my neck down for a while or turn it to the right. and sometimes when im just in straight. so i dont know whats up. Im hoping its not an anuerysm. I do have a temper and this month has been real aggravating plus the heat doesnt make it better..

so now im worried because one day i too Exedrin (2 of em) and the pain really kept going. then the next day i tried asprin. 500mg and it kept going. thats bad cuz that usually does the trick for me with a normal headache.

today i had 2 motrins. I took a tip from my girl cuz she uses that for her cramps. but it worked for a lil while at work and then i just felt that damn pain again on the left side. felt a lil dizzy. my eyes got a lil blurry for a while and i just walked out the office and found a quiet spot to just breath and close my eyes...it calmed down but im still in trouble as im writing this. so im worried and curious. Tell me your thoughts everyone. because im really going to the doctor to check something like this out for the first time..

so basically the pain is on the left side of my head, above my ear to the top a bit

The pain feels like a swelling like im straining and it really burns with stabbing force. As if superman was giving me a super nuggy in one spot

I have the same problem. I noticed it for the first time last night and you are right, it comes out of no where and shoots up the left side of my head and it so intense and then it's gone. I am scheduling a visit to my doctor but let me know what your doctor says. I would be interested. It is driving me crazy. I thought it was my heavy purse but I think it's something else. I am a female but I doubt it's menopause at 34 years of age. That was a pretty funny response by the way, had me laughing pretty hard. :-D

Hey all, just like 76BABYFACE I am a 31-year-old male. I started having panic attacks about 2 years ago. It took a lot of convincing from many doctors & myself that it was just anxiety and not some terrible disease or heart condition. Just when I thought I had kicked the anxiety, I started feeling these new sensations in my head about a month ago.

It started when I got an abcessed tooth infection. I went to the dentist and had that taken care of but then I started feeling some weird things along the right side of my head (same side as the tooth). I asked the dentist if it was possible that the infection spread up into my head or brain and he said 99 percent no. The sensations feel like a constant dull pressure sitting on the top right side. It would tingle a little and be sore to the touch. I did as any anxiety sufferer does and researched it online for hours. Of course doing this never helps, it only worsens the stress level. You start to identify with every symptom and even somehow convince yourself that you have them. I read about brain tumors and that a symptom is tingling in the extremities which sure enough, I started to feel right after I read the words. So needless to say I started having panic attacks again and I'm a mess. Went to the hospital last week and had a CT scan on my head, results were normal. ER referred me to a neurologist, which I have not seen yet, and gave me pain meds. Pain meds haven't worked and seems to have gotten worse. Started feeling quick twangs starting at the the top and shooting down the back right side of my head. Not particularly painful, just annoying. Then my head started feeling hot, making my whole body feel feverish, but I take my temp. and it's normal. Also started to feel slightly dizzy, slight ringing in my right ear and a little nausea (but no vomiting). I was thinking that maybe these were side effects of the pain meds. I went to my regular doctor 2 days ago and he said it is all anxiety. I thought perhaps ear infection but he looked in my ear and said it's fine.

Today I felt the sharp twangs again but just a tad more intense. They also occured more frequently then any other past day. Even though it is hot outside and in my building, I could swear I had a fever. I just got home and took my temp. again and it's normal. The dullness is still present and I'm starting to get regular headaches in my temples.

The worst part of all of this is that I do not have medical insurance. I don't want to keep going back to doctors and hospitals but I find it hard to buy that all these symptoms are just stress & anxiety. I can't afford all of this stuff! I've dealt with anxiety and panic for 2 years now and I'm familiar with what comes along with it. But these new things bring it to a whole new level. It drives me crazy to keep wanting to check myself out but then I think...one day something is going to be really wrong with me but I'm just going to dismiss it as anxiety and then I wouldn't have caught it in time.

Can anyone relate to these things and/or offer me any advice? It's getting very difficult to make it through the day. Write me at _[removed]_.

I started having similar shooting pains from my temple. The only last a second, but sometimes just brushing my hair back from my face will trigger them. Yesterday I wore a sun visor that squeezes my head at the temple. I wondered if it could be related, and my daughter agreed saying she had those when she had her old glasses that were too tight on the sides.

I have just gotten these excruciating headaches. I do not suffer from migraines or other headaches. These were happening everyday all day and night every 30 secs. Lasted about a week before went to doc. I would stop what I was doing and grab my head. Even shopping pretty bad if your a girl, then you know it really hurts when you can't shop. They hurt sooo sooooo bad. To the point where I was crying and I have high pain threshold. I went to Dr. had MRI said nothing is wrong. Put me on Tegretol, medicine they give for epilepsy. Worked great after about 3 days of dizziness. So I went off about 7 months later but my little icepick friend came pack with a vengence hurt soooo bad took about 3 days for medicine to work again my skin hurt on side of my face and scalp to the touch. I will definatley stay on this medication for now. Hope this helps anyone else.

I have the exact same thing, I talked to my brother who had it to and he said that he had slept wrong and his back was pinching a nerve. He did physical therapy and it went away.

Hi, I am a 40 year old male and feel a shooting pain from above-behind my right ear all the way to above-in front of my right ear. It lasts only a few seconds but feels like needles. It took some months but I discovered some causes of this pain:
1. Coffee or tea will cause this to happen.
2. Vitamin drinks
3. lack of sleep

But overwhelminingly, its a certain movement of my body bending over that causes the pain to begin. Like when I bent over to look for a mosquito below my desk just a moment ago.

It seems to me to be a blood vein, or main artery below the skull. It feels like this artery is becoming enlarged for a moment width-wise. I believe the only way to be sure is a catscan and that costs too much to do. Can anyone give us more info on this unusual shooting of pain?

Last night was the worst. I was sitting down watching T.V. when WOW....i got this stabbing pain on my left side above my ear....it had quite the punch...all I could do is hold my head...though it didn't do anything. Today....I have the same thing. They last maybe for 3 seconds and than they are gone...more frequently today than the one time last night. I am 26 years old......I try not to worry but its kind hard not too since its in your head (lol no pun intended) anywho have any ideas or have been to the doctor and been told something differently than the toothpick headache....we are all entitled to second opinions.....well hope everyone feels better....myself as well..(fingers crossed)

I have been experiencing the same shooting pain behind my left ear and occasionally by right ear but much less frequent. Someone mentioned that the pain is a one and the annoyance is a 5, I fully agree. Mine started last month when I thought it was just a pinched nerve but hasn't stopped. It has subsided a good bit however and does it less frequently. Does anyone know the cause of this?

I have the same, only now that I am travelling overseas it is much much worse. I have been diagnosed tho and it is called Transgeminal Neuralgia. Some cases are worse than others of course.

I am having the EXACT same issue. I am a 27 year old female. Although unlike some, I find the pain to be extreme.
