I am 21 year old female. and I am experiencing the same pain that is every 20 second to a minute. It is on the left side of my head and the shooting goes all the way to the tip of my ear it feels like, but it doesn't feel like an inner ear issue. It has been going on since yesterday. Do I need to go to the doctor? We don't have insurance so that's why I'm asking.

Do you all use computers frequently?
If so, then that's your problem. Eye strain causes extreme sudden pain on the right hand side of your head.
Put your hand on the side of your eye, move the hand back a bit and if that's where the pain occurs then take a break from reading, computing or whatever could cause eye strain and walk outside for a while.

I get a stabbing pain just behind my right eye, it feels as though someone is pushing a red hot needle in and quickly removing it. Duration of pain varies from half second to 3 seconds. it's scary because it's sudden and you stop doing whatever and pay attention until it instantly subsides and is gone.
These episodes have happened once every 6 months to a year for the last 20yrs. But last 3 days have been every few hours. I think it helps to keep a record of when and how long they occur.
Will go see doc monday.

My head pain was severe on the right side of my head.
For years I suffered Migraines and always on the right side.
I did not know about Vitamin sensitivty then.
I have learned not to touch anything which is or contains Vitamin E.
Since I have discovered this sensitivity to Vitamin E the head pains have stopped.

My family doctor mentioned arthritis and said to check for lumps at the temple (the soft spots to the sides of your eyes). Have not found anything relating to this but my search capabilities are practically non-ezistent. Any help out there?

I'm 37 and I've had the same shooting pains on my right and left side for about 4 years now so the Dr. who said it could be menopause, I really doubt it. They're not constant, I haven't had them for a while... until today. They started this morning again and like everyone else, they only last a second or so and are also very bothersome. Sometimes it feels like something is putting pressure on my brain. I don't lead a stressful life, but I do tend to have a lot of noise in my head but then again, who doesn't? I haven't consulted my Dr. about this but if they get worse, I may have to.

I have been suffering from somthing similar: mine starts from the back of the head and travels to the back of my eye (left side), it lasts for about a second that feels like an hour, because the pain is so sudden and STRONG. There use to be no other symptoms involved but now I get head aches on the left side all the time, along with the sharp attacks (once or twice a day). My docter sent me for an x-ray, saying it was a trapped nerve, but the x-ray revealed nothing.
I do believe it is caused by a trapped nerve.......the question is "what is trapping it?".
After doing some research, I have found out that mostly women during or after their manopause tend to suffer from this condition. I my-self am in my mid 20's, however, I also suffer from a certain medical condition???? (for any researchers out there, its an information worth looking into).
I am so worried that iv lost sleep for over a month now. If anyone out there can shed some light please email me on _[removed]_.
Here is the name of a condition that some of you may be interested in looking into: Trigeminal Neuralgia.

I am 19 years old. & just about 3 or 4 times everyday I get a shooting pain on my right &/or left side of my neck that is kind of like a spasming feeling. I can't move my head while or after it happens for 1 or 2 minutes. sometimes it even happens when I drive, & I have a 30 minute commute.& I also get a very bad pressure headache on my forehead. I've worn sunglasses for 5+ years so I don't think it has to do with sun damage, but can anyone help me out?

I am 33 years old I had never experienced that shooting pain before in my life until just recently! I tell my husband it feels like a sudden shock of electricity shooting up starting from the bottom of my ear to the top of my head! It's quick but painful and scary! It is about 4:30am here in NYC I had just got up to use the bathroom when it came on! I Googled how I was feeling and landed on this web page! It's crazy to know I'm not the only one, but very concerning that the people who have been to the doctors have no answer! That doesn't give me hope! I will be going to my doc on Monday and will post again soon! Good lick to all of u and if anyone gives u an answer please post. I am OD scared!

I've had this for many years. It is a type of cranial neuralgia.. (nerve pain) There are several types of "cranial neurlagia" with the pain taking different paths depending on the nerve affected. The herpes simplex virus (cold sore) is one culprit.. it lies dormant in the nerve root until activated by a lowered immune system (having a cold or virus, stress, having your period ext.. ) Valtrex can help if herpes simplex is the cause.
It took me years and lots of money to figure this out. try this link for more info. I hope this information helps someone
