I had a CT Scan to find out why I have a huge mass and pain in my neck. Found out I have surgical clips in my neck from a surgery on my carotid artery in June 2000. I was not informed that these clips were left in my neck at the time of the surgery. I would never have known these were in my neck if the mass in my neck had not grown so large and is so painful. Now the surgeon who found these in my neck said if he tries to remove the clips it could render me damaged or cause my death. I have a copy of the surgery report where the doctor stated he removed the clips. This is falsified document, obviously, since the clips are still in my neck. Have you had any patients who have had clips removed after so many years and not died?

This is is all very upsetting. Young through all of these stories and recently going through all of this myself. I have no clue how to deal with all this... I told my surgeon I am allergic to most nickle and even some firms of gold and titanium... But. F me. Right? It's not like I've lived in my body my whole life....

Any ways. It looks like someone got clumsy and dumped a box of confetti down my neck... and I am scared and not sure what to do.

I too had total thyroidectomy. Had much swelling, swollen glands in neck chronic pressure headaches, difficulty talking and swallowing. Had many appointments and throat swallow studies. My symptoms were brushed off even with constant spasms in head and neck. My thyroid surgery was March 30, 2017. I did not know about the clips until recent imaging. Am wondering now if some of these issues are related to these clips.

I had a partial thyroidectomy on April of 2017,
My surgeon said nothing, I have been having trouble since my surgery, I have trouble swallowing (dysphasia), also I feel dull pain in the surgery site, I cannot sleep sideways, I cough a lot, sometimes my voice is hoarse, I continue to lose wight.
These surgical clips were discovered last week after I had a neck scan that words "surgical clips" then a PET scan showed a focus of metal in that area.
It has been a nightmare, I thought it had to do with my throat even went to an ENT, thinking the problem was polyps inside my throat.
Having an appointment with Endo, this week, because there seems to be a tissue that grew on the operation site,
Can someone tell me if this is normal?

I have about 50 staples left in my throat from a total thyroidectomy and believe me they are a big issue for me. I feel them every moment and it is difficult to swallow because of them. I have had them for 10 years and recently started having major neck pain. After getting my neck x-rays done the ortho dr. wanted me to have an MRI. When I went there they asked about any metal in my body and I mentioned the staples. The radiologist looked at the x-rays and said I was not a candidate for a neck MRI because the machine would heat up the staples and burn me from the inside out. It is awful that my surgeon used these horrible things as everyone else I talk to who has had TT had dissolvable internal sutures and no issues with swallowing or looking up or down too far and experiencing a tearing sensation. I am so upset about not being able to have my neck issue addressed because of a doctor who was too lazy to tie off each blood vessel. And like you stated it was not even written in the surgery notes.

I had surgery to remove my thyroid back in 2006, they removed the left side and then pathology said I had cancer and they removed the right side and parathyroid glands. I started getting sick, neck swelling and face swelling, joint pains and feeling sick and was told it was due to the thyroid being removed. I have over 69 clips and was never told either until accidentally found during a cat scan for feeling like I’m being suffocated. I wish they could remove them I don’t know where to start
