I quit methadone cold turkey about 5 months ago. Had been on it several years, had bought it on the streets and went to a few clinics. I also noticed ankle pain and swelling. The doctors at my clinics also acted said theyd never heard of anyone having this problem from methadone. When I got off the done, the ankle swelling stopped. I've slipped up and relapsed several times recently, and each time the ankle swelling comes back. So I'm positive this is a side effect of the methadone. I'm 29yo, and have never had this happen except when taking done.

Gained 40 pounds over this summer, have similar swollen feet and ankles from what appears to be water weight, so I am seeing clinic Doctor October first,2012 in a week for take-home review and am going to ask him for fluid reductionmedication to see what he says at Habit Opco. Everyone I know has gotten a hard time with delayed take-home medications at this clinic due to counselors making up different excuses from 60 day elligibility onward and if anyone reading this can advise me

about your clinic's take home policy and whether there are long delays past 60 day elligability I would greatly appreciate it and give you any free criminal law assistance you or your friends may need for free since drafting criminal appeals and suppression memo's of law for lawyers and similar attacks on wrongful convictions is what I do (winning two dozen murder, robbery, drug trafficking new trials and numerous suppression motions). Thank those of you that posted your methadone side effect problem and if anyone got a prescription to reduce water retention let us all know if it worked and I shall post after I get my prescription either from clinic doctor or my personal physician. I am a 25 year old white female who has been on methadone for 4 years. About a year ago I noticed my hands were turning BRIGHT red, with orange spots when the weather is cold enough. I began a detoxification in January, approx 2 mg/week every week and noticed the redness has lessened. My fingers are still swollen, as are my toes(and everything is more swollen on the right side.) My heart flutters, I have nausea, chills, sweats, depression, anxiety, insomnia, hallucinations, and diarrhea most days. I have 7 broken teeth, all in the back of my mouth where the methadone hits daily.Days of awful symptoms are met with LOTS OF PROTEIN as it will stop detox cold--eat well if you don't believe me. In less than 2 months I will be off of methadone and am hoping the swelling COMPLETELY subsides as I have no room for more health problems in my life.

I have the same symptoms, but the doctors tell me it is everything but methadone.

Hypothyroidism, Raynauds are the two most common things I am told.

Until I see my clinic Doctor October 1st, 2012 to get pills to relieve water retention swelling to feet and ankles, I tried common remedy of drinking a couple of cups of tea which relieved most of the water weight and reduced the swelling and I shall be trying over-the-counter meds until Dr prescribed something, but unless you have congestive heart failure or really serious disease (which I doubt) the connection between methadone and swelling is common and probably is the methadone

I have been on methadone over 4 years and have less than 2 months left.
The redness/swelling began within the past year and has decreased during detox but am unsure if it's the blood pressure causing my hands to be less red (than what I have been considering normal.)
Morning stiffness, tingling sensations when above my head or laid on my arms for a mere minute or so. Extreme sensitivity to cold.
I hope it's the methadone, but it's seeming more serious than that.
Thanks, though!

Also, I've been told massaging your hands in the morning helps. My boyfriend does this for me and I notice a difference, unfortunately the swelling will come back shortly after. But it's nice either way.

Get off while you still can. No joke. It's rotted my teeth and screwed up my weight so that I can't keep any on--it's disgusting.

You will be so much better off, this I promise to you.

Thank you all for info because Habit Opco group counselor and medical orientation person

both have been trained to deny such adverse effects, which I also had after six months

putting on fifty pounds, swollen feet, ankles and legs, which prescribed water reduction pills

immediately helped with 15 pound weight loss and about two pounds more every day after

first week.
