Methadone will cause fluid retention and numbness\pain in hands and feet, sleeping problems, shortness of breath and many other problems related to your endocrine nervous system. Limit salt, sugar intake, elavate your feet, compression socks and ice will all help. Make sure you walk a lot and rapper your dose down to as low as you can. I gain over 100lbs, has to go up 2 sizes on my shoes when I was taking 190mg. Now down to under 80mg and still going down. I've lost over 50lbs so far and can breath again. Methadone is not to love on but to help you stop. ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** posting of private information such as name, phone number or email address is not allowed in order to protect your privacy*** Please read our Terms of Use if you'd like to talk more......good luck!

I started weaning myself last month and lost 12 pounds right away and still loosing. I look like a different person . I feel like I was much prettier on pills. Crazy to say but I have pics. The swelling around my eyes I look like Shrek. Anyway much love to you . Your words spoke to me ... xoxo lostinwinecountry

ME TOO
Swollen ankles and calves....chest palputations
The Clinic told me that it was not the Methadone....but they just want the $400 monthly
I have been to Cardiologist, and every other doctor ....checking liver, heart, veins .....and I test with no issues, but Swollen ankles and calves, NO doubt its the Methadone
TOO many people with the same issue {swollen ankles using Methadone}
Why cant these doctors see this ....... Because the "clinic" is getting $$$$

I’m glad I’m not alone in the ankle and finger swelling while I was on a high dose of Methadone. I was on opiates for 4 years, and Methadone for 12 years. I got up to 140mg daily, and am almost completely off of it now FINALLY! It took me 5 years to taper because I did it as slow as possible. I’m now only on 2mg in the AM and 1mg in the PM. I told all the drs and they looked at me like I was crazy when I told them about the swelling. I also had all the heart, kidney and liver tests done and nothing was wrong. I also developed severe panic attacks and anxiety while on it. I guess it’s just a double edge sword because there are pros and cons just like anything else. Now that I am almost off of it my weight has gone back down and I no longer have severe edema in my ankles, lower calves and fingers. It would get really bad the longer I was on my feet for some reason. I do now have severe digestive issues and was recently diagnosed with IBS, not sure if it was caused by over a decade of being in Methadone or not but I wouldn’t doubt it. I now have a bunch of fibroadenomas in my breast which was discovered and removed when I was 26 and on methadone and now they are back. They also found a pre-cancerous polyp in my colon and I’m only 33 years old. once again may not have anything to do with methadone, but I just wanted to mention it. Don’t panic because most likely it’s not scary health issues, and is just due to a high dose of methadone. Get checked just to be on the safe side for peace of mind if you have the recourses to do so. Good luck everyone and do what’s best for you recovery ❤️‍
