Yes, you are totally right. I've been on the program & I gained weight, lots of water retention. Once I came down slowly, the symptoms started disappearing. I've bought it ,after no use for a year & bingo-swollen ankles again & a sweet tooth. Please, go down slowly, eat well, walk & b4 u know it, you'll be fine. I was on it 17yrs all up & no Dr is going to want to lose you. They never, ever encourage anyone to get off the c**p.. Hope it helped a little?!

I started Methadone 3 weeks ago and my feet, ankles and legs are unbelievably swollen. My Methadone doctor said it was a side effect that mainly occurs in women and it's rare ( about %5 ) it's just water. She gave me a prescription for teva-Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg one every morning.
I took one pill and by the next morning the swelling was gone from everywhere. I am still taking this medicine with the methadone and it's going really well with no problems.
Good luck everyone. Remember to advocate for yourself and don't be afraid to talk with a pharmacist

Exactly they make to much money off of us and all my doctor wants is me to increase my dose apparently methadone doctors get you to 100 mls because they know you are trapped for at least a year so is it the porche or lambo, deny deny deny every side effect i have ISN'T METHADONE he claims but my research says it is

That is exactly my problem right now!!!! Every time I ask the nurse at the methadone clinic they say that my swelling and water retention isn't from the methadone and to go to my pcp. I go to my pcp and they don't know anything. I've gained at least 80lbs on this stuff and I've swelled up soooooo badly!!!!

Omg yes my feet and ankles are so swollen i am finally weaning off after a year on methadone. And now they are swelling up again just like when I first started it and the nurses and doctors act like they never heard of it before. wtf is wrong with them they are supposed to help us instead they say oh you prob are not at the right dose yet... well tuff sh*t I'm now getting off I'm down to 100mg now. I also gained 89 pounds and it's like water weight like everyone says I'm definitely barely eating so I have no idea what else could be causing it ugh I can't wait to be done.

I thought I was the only one with the numb hands but that started before the methadone but I was on pain pills. Also have gained weight a lot and have what seems to be water retention with swelling feet and ankles. I'm scared too. Is this sh*t going to kill me?

I take a different type of methadone than most of you I believe. I am on the pill form for pain. I take 6 pills a day for pain. As soon as I started these pills 8 yrs ago the swelling started. Nobody knew why. They checked my heart, fine, they checked my kidney no problem, until lately now my kidneys are messing up. I decided to get off of this damn medication last week. I am now weaning off 1 pill a week and I got up this morning and for the first time in yrs. I can see my foot. No swelling. It is like a miracle. So anyone that tells you methadone does not cause swelling is lying to you. I am living proof. I can only figure out that since I am off of some of it for 5 days and the swelling is diminishing something had to do with methadone.

Hey buddy I know this comment is over a year old but if you are still experiencing these symptoms you need to see a non-clinic related physician, this sounds like congestive heart failure, which is not immediately life threatening, and can be controlled with meds, but given enough time can lead to dangerously low blood pressure or even aortic fibrillation (aka A-fib) I could be wrong, but it's better to see a non-clinic physician, the ones at the clinic are sort of burnt out and get a whole lot of hypochondriacs, which doesn't excuse poor bedside manner, but still.

That's no doctor than. More like a mechanic. Methadone mechanic! The sooner they fix a problem another pops up.... Just like that old Buick century you used to bring in to the trusty neighbor Hood mechanic....he/she knows that when your carburetor breaks next month, That nice trusting neighbor Hood mechanic will be there with that "what a shame look mixed in with that confident voice reassuring that they'll make it all better for you
