I have a swollen gland behind my left ear but its hard. Usually when you are sick your glands get filling with infectious fluid so they get kind of squishy but mine is a hard lump and is tender to the touch. Also my right ear  is plugged up. I heard a pop earlier in the day and then some ringing and now it has just felt plugged up ever since. I didn't notice the gland until I rubbed my neck because it was sore so it only hurts when you touch it. I have had a cold recently and frequent migraines. Any ideas on why the gland is hard or why my ear is plugged after the popping noise?

Hi Katied,

The swollen gland behind your ear is a lymph node.   They're normal.  When there is an infection, they get bigger, as they help fight the infection, such as your recent cold or possibly a minor ear infection.

As long as your ear isn't painful and isn't bothering you much it should heal on its own.

Hope it helps.
