I too have been having issues, for over a year now.  Could be stress, could be reflux, anxiety, who knows.  My symptoms:

- Shortness of breath, where I feel like I'm always needing to take a deep breath... constantly
- Swelling of the throat, and I can't pinpoint whether this is from acid or stress or anxiety.  Doesn't happen as often as shortness of breath

Dr. first thought it was allergies, so I'm on Singulair
That didn't work, so then he though acid, which I do have.  I'm on lansoprazole.
That didn't quite work, so I swore it was anxiety, and am on buspirone.

And... still having issues.  I've noticed, too, that it is worse after a night of drinking.  Dr. wants me to see a gastroenterologist, and I half wonder if I should see an ENT, or some other type of specialist.

What are some of your suggestions?  What type of specialist would be best?

I know what your talking about. The last couple of weeks i have had trouble breathing proper. I have shortness of breath and a swollen throat , feels like a lump in the middle of my throat. When i get up and move feel shortness of breath. I hate to get up! Haa. Really . Anyway my doctor says anxiety. I have had my heart checked, lungs, blood tests ect. . All is fine. Although i still think something is not right. Controlling my panic helps. Dont panic !! Try meditation for breathing . It works. Dont worry , dont panic . Remain calm and find something to focus on. This will relax your throat muscles.

Hi,

Ive had similar problems for the past 2 years. I start feeling like my neck muscles are tightening up and my throat is closing. The i cant swallow for fear of swallowing my tongue, my heart races and when it gets really bad i cant eat for fear of choking on food. The doctor has given me diazepam which helps control it, but I cant take it all the time. I'm 22 years old and it's really starting to effect my social life. Anybody else having similar symptoms?

All these posts are the same. My thoughts are that it is the fluroride in the water. If you buy a filter jug like Alex jones sells then give this ago and if it doesnt come back you or your symptoms improve you will then know that is what has been the problem. Think they are about $70US. II live in NZ so I cant order this jug. If not then I would say it may by myofibromyalgia. Google it. I also have had the same symptoms and have been taking 5HTP a natural pill for stress and nerve related problems. Has helped slightly but I find I feel tired and in the morning takes ages to get going. While on this though I did not experience the swelling and sore stomachs. I also believe it is a gut problem as well and limit my alcohol intake by buying low alc 7.5% wine, if any at all. I have yet to buy the fluoride filtered jug and when I do I will post my results here again. Hope this helps Angee

I was having a similar problem. The frequency of my not being able to breathe was increasing during the day and night. I was only getting a few hours sleep each night because I had to keep jumping up in a panic. During the day I was trying to manage the problem but as afternoon wore on I was struggling to swallow and breathe. In desperation I googled for a few hours and hit upon some things that have really helped. 1. I gave my vocal cords a rest- no humming or singing and less talking2. I boiled caraway seeds and drank the tea from it3. I swallowed raw honey and let it slowly slide down my throatI immediately felt relief and was able to sleep for about 8 hours that night. I think they relax the throat and the honey and caraway seeds are meant to help with bacterial infections. Apparently, the throat keeps tensing up (which is the brain getting in the way) so you have to really focus on trying to rest and relax your throat. Hope this is helpful :)

I've had same swollen throat, hard to swallow symptoms for some time. Been to ER and my primary practioner who knows me well. Nothing. Perhaps acid reflux. (No!) I also am seeing a therapist and in a recovery group...both said stress. I don't feel stressed and would be inclined to discount them, but when a couple of issues in my life were solved, the tightness went away. Now I have a couple things piling up again, its coming back. What research I have done says that the feeling comes from not s being true to yourself and/or standing up for what is right for you. That is what I had done, actually, that had resolved an issue when the swollen feeling had gone away. Think of the "lump in your throat" feeling and when and why you get it. Its kind of along those lines. Sounds a bit bizarre, but that's what fit in my situation, and I was CONVINCED there was in fact something in my throat! They even did an xray! Nothing. Being open and honest took away the symptoms. Hope this helps.

I have had this now for two nights straight. A horrible feeling. I do suffer with panic attacks but never like this. My throat feels like its swelling and can't breathe. This makes me more anxious and have spent all night awake. I walk around trying to find some air. Going to the doctors tomorrow hopefully will help.
