Hi, just thought I'd add my two cents worth. I'm 35 and have like others found this board by googling after experiencing some troubling breast pain. However, having noted some similarities, my pain is not exactly as described by others. I have experienced a sharp shooting pain at the base of my right breast only, no where near the nipple or armpit. The event although painful, is not enough to stop me in my tracks. My breasts are tender anyway, as although I have the depo injection, this would probably be about the time I would be menstruating. I have noticed though that if I press directly where the pain occurs I can feel a dull version of the same pain and if pressed to hard its almost the same. The exact spot on the left breast is also tender, however does not create the same shooting effect when pressed. Should the pain not pass when this period is over, I will contact my GP but for now I am not worried, just curious. So far it has only happened twice, once in the evening 9ish and this morning 10ish. Of course if this becomes a frequent occurance, I'll be down to the surgery a lot sooner. For those of you who have suffered for months/years I can only offer my sympathy, it is unimaginable.

Hi
I'm 25 years old and I woke up about 3-4 days ago with a sharp pain in my outer right breast. This has happened to me once before, about a month or so ago. I'm thinking it's possibly hormone-related because of the timing. The first time it happened, it worried me a bit but I think I just set my mind to ignore it and it went away. This time around, the spot is more tender and the pain much sharper, and I am suddenly paranoid to death. So that's how I found this forum.
I've read some statistic that 9 times out of ten, breast pain is benign. Supposedly this is the reason why it is so difficult to find cancer - because it normally is not accompanied by pain. Also, a hard lump is more characteristic of a cancer tumor. I've heard it described as such: when doing a breast self-exam, a cancer lump will feel like a rock in a bag of grapes. When I feel this tender spot, I can find just a teeny tiny, slightly movable soft bump. SO basically what I'm saying is that I'm trying to use these facts to reassure myself it's nothing too serious.
That having been said, I have an OBGYN appt first thing tomorrow morning. So the point of me posting this is that I hope I can help someone else who is freaking out the way I am when they google "sharp pain in breast," and stumble upon this forum. So those are my symptoms, and I will be back tomorrow or the next day to post what I find out at the Dr's office.

For 3 years I was having sharp, stabbing pains from my right nipple area and under my arm. I also had a hard pea-sized lump just below my right nipple which seemed to be where all the pain stemmed from. I went to my GP who arranged a gyno appointment, this was last year, I had a mammography and a biopsy was taken from the lump. It was not at all undignified, and only mild discomfort. 2 weeks later I went back for my results.
The consultant confirmed the lump was a benign (non-cancerous) Fibroadenoma. He said I could have it removed but did not recommend it because it may not be the cause of the pain. He explained that hormones stimulate pain in the breasts. Which is why some of the women on here have cut down on dairy foods which raise estrogen levels.
I chose not to have the lump removed. A year on and the pain is much worse. I will be going back to my GP to get this lump removed purely out of desperation.
For about a week and a half I have eaten A LOT of chocolate over the Easter holiday and noticed my breast pain has been considerably worse, has anyone else noticed chocolate makes it worse? Chocolate does not contain caffeine but it does contain a natural substance that works in the same way as caffeine so there may be a link.
I will report back when I have my fibroadenoma removed. Incidentally, I have never read of fibroadenomas causing this much pain. So removing may not help like the consultant said. Not very hopeful but desperation leads.

I'm 14, and I've been experiencing sharp pains in both of my breasts (which are considerably developed for my age) for several months. They are more common when I'm sitting down or I'm an inhaling. The pain itself feels like a common stitch (that I would usually get in my lower abdomen from jogging etc), but is fleeting (1-5 seconds), but often recurs three or four times, with the pain altering in severity.
There is no history of breast cancer in my family, and I'm not concerned about it, but I read that wearing ill fitting bras could damage your breast tissue, so could this be a result of wearing push up bras whilst my breasts were still developing?
I also noticed however, that they become more frequent for about a week, then grow irregular again, then suddenly reappear a few weeks later; could this be related to hormone levels due to puberty or different stages of my menstrual cycle?
Any opinions or similar experiences would be very appreciated : )

For the past couple of nights , my right breast has had this sharp pain like someones stabbing me from the inside. I made sure to sleep on my back that night, and the next day, both of them had that pain. They feel like they're changing a lot , but I'm a 36 C. My left one is a C/D and my right one is a B/C . Breast cancer is in my family on both sides, but I'm only 13. They are hurting so much I was about to cry. Is this normal?

Hello i am having this similar problem but it is not my right breast it is my left. I am 17 i had a baby so i hope this isn't any signs of pregnancy. I don't know if i should go see a doctor or wait out and see. But the pain comes from the left side of my left breast idk if that makes any sense, But that is what i feel. It last for maybe 55 seconds and goes away. It might come back like a day later or whatever. But its really sharp and annoying pains. Any suggestions??

I am 15 years old. I have been having sharp shooting pains in both breasts to where sometimes I can hardly breathe. I could just be sitting there and they come out of no where. Nothing seems to brign them on and they can last about 5 minutes. Also, my left nipple seems to always indent unlike my other one. But on both, on the nipple there are white dots and if squeezed then like, milk I guess. Around the nipple are bumbs with yellow-liquid that sometimes leak or when touched leak. There are a few other things but I have to go. I have no idea what to do. I would love some answers though.
Should I be worried or not?
Thank you.!

I am a 43 year old woman who just started having symptoms. The way I figure it, It is a new symptom of ovulation or something like that. It happens the week (or two before) my period. This will be the third time. The pain is in my right upper breast all the way through to the coresponding part of my back. It gets so painful that it hurts to move or lay down. Forget freaking sleeping. The first time I just thought it was weird. The second time was a pattern and honestly a 7 on the pain scale for over a week. And this time (just beginning to feel the pain) I just don't know if I can handle that again. I seriously took handfulls and handfulls of every pain medication available and it didn't even put a dent in it. So I think it must be time for the doctor. Although I did some research online and found other women who had something similar and their doctors did nothing. I honestly don't know if I can do that pain again without curling into a ball and boo hooing.
It is nice to see that other people are having sort of the same symptoms.

Hi ,
I am 15 years old and I am getting the same pains in my right breast. It feels like someone is stabbing with a pin like every minute. My mother is overseas at the moment and couldnt ask her if something was wrong. I have had a few times before and is in the same breast each time. I was wondering , should I be worried about anything (see a doctor?).

Any real concerns of this pain should be taken up with a specialist over any comments. I have been having this pain but none of these comments are helping me to try and figure out the source.
The pain I have been experiencing is a very intense sharp pain that only lasts a few seconds or less but it is constant. And the pain is located on the bottom side of my right breast, but definitely inside the breast itself.

This website has really helped me out.
I have pain in my left breast on and off for the past couple years. I def think it's something to talk to a doctor about when you have breast pain because it could be anything, but a lot of people don't have insurance and will never end up going to the doctor for something like this.
But if you do not plan on going to a doctor then I would recomend doing a lot of research. It could be something that you only experience once a month during your period. it could be cancer. or it could be something as simple as your bra being too small for you.
If you do not plan on getting this checked out then def research it and keep track of when the pain comes
If something else happenes around the time that you get the pain that mention it too
