Hey everyone, how are you guys d oing?
Im just wondering is there anyone taking Tretinoin regularly? does that really work?
In my view, if u can take some medicine to suppress the symptom, i prefer not to perform any surgical operation. after all, it is not a fatal disease.

take care

Hi Perroloco, can you please tell me more about the smoothbeam laser, the settings
you would recommend, do you drain the cysts with a needle first? My wife has several
cysts on her face and we tried smoothbeam on a few of them and it seemed to flatten
the cysts. Are the smoothbeam machines expensive to buy? and do you treat yourself or
have your doctor use the laser on you?

My wifes father has severe steatocystoma multiplex on his face and my wife only has it mild
on her face. I think smoothbeam laser is the best treatment option around at the moment
and im trying to encourage her to go for more treatments buts shes unsure if it helps.
Have you actually been treated by Rox Anderson?

Hey aussie. How are you?
I've been treated by Dr. Anderson a couple of times, as i may mentioned sometimes, with limited succes, using a smoothbeam device.
The machine is not so expensieve, if you can wait enough for a used one to appear. I could tell you about where i bough it, i payed aroun 12k. I've been working with the 4mm head, at full power, with the dcd turned almost off (the dcd cools the skin using a cold gas before the Laser shot, but in ny case, having it on higher levels left "burns" in my skin.... )Dr Anderson would shot twice on each cyst with a 2 second delay). Before the shots excesion with a no. 11 blade where done.
You can search for my Mail on previous posts, Maybe i can offer you a tip or two, but i'd need more details.

Take care.

Hi Perrolco. Can you please tell me more about the treatments that you had with Dr. Anderson? From your posts, it seems like you are saying he can take out about 20 cysts for $450 per session. How does he take them out? With a 18 gauge needle or No. 11 blade? Does he make an incision and drain the cystic contents then do the laser? I live close to him so I'm thinking of visiting him every 2 months or so until he can take out all my cysts.

How about scarring? Do you get any hyperpigmentation problem?

Also, is Smoothbeam keeping your condition in control? Let me know more. I know I am asking a lot of questions but I would really appreciate if you can answer. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I am 22 years old, and I have been struggling with this condition for around 5 years now.

I was following another steatocystoma thread, and I am glad to have found this one, as everyone seems to be working hard to find a cure together.

For what it's worth, I have tried almost everything to get rid of my cysts. Granted, everyone's condition is different, but for me, any practical means of extraction has been very difficult because of the sheer number of cysts on my body. There are literally thousands...it is quite a depressing thought.

I have taken accutane with no success, and quite nasty side effects, so I would personally not recommend that to anyone.

I have used CO2 lasers which left significant scarring and hyperpigmentation.

I have tried many varieties of topical ointments, such as tretonin gels and many other acne-related topical gels. I cannot remember them all, but if need be I can probably dig up all my old prescriptions.

Nothing seems to work because there are simply too many...but I remain optimistic and I will update you all if I come across anything.
I read the earlier posts on the injections treatment in China, but I'm guessing that it would only be practical for those of us with relatively fewer cysts...

I am currently seeming an esthetician, who is using a laser to extract them and using an erbium resurfacing laser to help with the scarring. It has been about 5 months now; the cysts are removed fine, but the scarring is still quite pronounced after 3 erbium treatments.

Anyways, I'll try to keep you guys posted on any developments I find.

Keep up the good work guys.

hey you all,
none of you know me but ive been following these threads for a while,
im a 20 year old male from holland, been diagnosed with sm a few months back and ever since the diagnosis theyre popping out like crazy. its sickening how much this does to you mentally. before this i was always in a good mood but now some of my friends are asking me what is wrong with me. im afraid to tell anyone and i can keep them covered pretty good. my derm said that the standard treatment was to do nothing, but im gonne make an appointment soon to see if he can remove a few. i have a few on my legs now, my neck and a lot on my chest, also a lot very very small ones. my mom said she knew noone who had this from my family so i geuss i formed a new mutation myself. i read a lot about aspiration with an 18 gauge needle and then scrubbing the cyst wall, i geuss im gonne order one of those needles online and try it out myself. anyways u heard enough of these storys, please let us know how its going there perroloco, we're all very curious

Hello All,

IM 27. This is absolutely miserable having SM. The toll it takes on your confidence/stress levels is rediculous. I'm in Michigan. There are two better named doctors in my area. Ive tried lazer and incisions. With the scarring, there almost isnt even a reason to have removed as theyre just as noticible. With the treatments in the post above, removing 20 per session, can you list any more details to the doctors around? Where is Doctor Anderson Located? If that what it takes to get rid of the issue, itd be extremely worth it.

Thank you for everyone with this site. It gives hope everytime i check up on it. Also, has anyone had any luck contacting universities specializeing in Dermatology? I know of a few, but havent had a response. Any other help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

hey I'm 29 and female I have a simuliar condition called vallus hair cysts on my stomach. Ive been dealing with this condition for 10 years! In the last two years my scalp hair along with all the hair on my body including eye brows and eye lashes has drasticly thinned and i wanted to see if any of you are also dealing with thinning hair along with the skin problems? I'm trying to figure out if the two are connected? I ve been flying out to bosten to see dr Anderson a few tims a year to have the smoothbeam treatments, which seem to really fade the cysts, but the problem is they seem to refill after a period of time. While the cysts are really bothersome, i want to find out what is causing them- what is the disease process? Is it hormonal? And what other body systems are affected. Getting rid of the cysts is very important but i really want to find out the mechanisum behind the physical manifestation. Any information would be great.
