Hi everyone, not sure if this will be seen. I was admitted to the hospital in July of 2017. Spent three days in icu, then five more days. I feel like my episode is quite different from everyone else. I was and am a recovering heroin addict. I managed to get three years clean and started straighting out my life. Unfortunately in July I had a relapse. The morning after my stupid and dangerous decision, I woke up with my legs not able to support my weight. I was home alone, so after dragging myself through the house and grabbing what I could to try and stand, I also injured my knee in one attempt to
stand and fell. At that moment I called someone to get me to the hospital. My ck levels weren't crazy high from what I've read, around the 7000-7500. I was given iv fluids and oxygen. I proscribed a nerve medicine nerorotin. When I finally got home I went through weeks of the worst pain I've ever experienced, this lasted 4-6 weeks. In that time I struggled to sleep and eat and staying hydrated was a chore. Fast forward to today September 24, 2017 I'm still experiencing complications and haven't been able to work. The extreme pain has subsided, but still have knee and quad tightness and weakness. Along with nerve numbness that goes from top of leg down my shin to top of ankle. I'm starting to worry that I these symptoms are and always be a constant reminder of my stupid decision. I am feeling a bit better and started walking around my local park with a knee brace. I've refrained from alcohol and hard drugs (occasionally partaking in herbal medicine) but only when the pain was crazy intense. I guess what I'd like to know if there is anyone else that has experienced this and how long did it take to recover. I'll reiterate I am back on track with recovery from heroin, and have totally been humbled after experiencing instant karma (it was a one time thing) and have definitely learned a valuable lesson into staying vigilant with my addiction issues. I thank you if you have read this and any insight would help so much.
