Do you realize how unintelligent your comment sounds from simply a logical standpoint??? Do you understand what variables are?? Do you understand that chronic pain doesn't have to be at a level 8-10 (out of 10) to warrant the use of opiates?? Just a level 5 all day/night Year round is enough to be debilitating (or strongly effect a persons life) from living a normal life (or an aggressively ambitious one where such pain prevents the ability to actively pursue their goals). So if that person has the choice between almost complete relief and the ability to chase their dreams, or "just getting by" without using EFFECTIVE MEDICATIONS like you likely are, then WHAT'S THE PROBLEM???? And MANY of those people also have BREAKTHROUGH PAINs that accompany their chronic pain....these are the times when they might very well need enough to become slightly "intoxicated." But as long as done so responsibly (not driving etc), then again, WHATS THE PROBLEM??? You prefer they just sit there angry and miserable posting online about how "tough" they are because they didn't use effective pain control medications (like you)??? Bottom line: you cannot begin to assume that you understand another persons pain - even if you both have to exact same underlying cause! Bodies react differently...we are all wired differently (would you tell a person with erectile dysfunction not to use viagra because you don't use it for your performance anxiety generated ED that you've found a way around?? Yours being psychological while someone else's is physiological. That's how ridiculous your statement is. ****And allllll of that being said - I am 100% confident that you don't even KNOW real pain or chronic pain....because IF you actually did, you would be aware of the fact that most non-narcotic modalities do NOT even come close to relieving pain the same way! ...plus, those that DO, are usually very short lived. Massage therapy helps me decrease chronic pain sometimes, but ONLY DURING THE MASSAGE! Hmmm....do I take pain pills 5-8 times a day or do I get 15-24massages ???? I sincerely hope you never experience the types of ACTUAL pain that I and others who NEED these medications to live happy lives (rather than suicide because I don't want to live a life where I CANT pursue my goals that consist of wanting to do more than "get by" & "earn a decent living."). BUT, if you continue to spew your ignorant self righteous BS, then I do hope you have to experience REAL pain (and chronic pain) ....and then feel the regret and stupidity of your previous (current) assumptions and outlooks on the topic. ******ITS PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO ARE IN GOVERNMENT (influential positions) THAT HAVE NO IDEA HOW NECESSARY THESE MEDS ARE AND ARE DEMONIZING THEM BECAUSE OF id**t ABUSERS/KIDS WHO DIE BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS DIDNT TEACH THEM ABOUT THE DANGERS, AND BECAUSE THEY THINK "WELL I SPRAINED MY ANKLE WHILE I WAS ON THE TRACK TEAM IN HIGH SCHOOL, SO I KNOW PAIN AND I KNOW THAY TYLENOL AND ICE CAN WORK JUST FINE." ....

IF you are of low income and/or you have no heath coverage (which OBOZO CARE SCREWED MOST of the people, in this category) then you can approach the individual companies for assistance.
I know that Perdue Pharma has a "Patient Assistant (Assistance?) Program (PAP) wherein, IF you "qualify" then they will pay for your medication 100%.
But there are hoops that one has to "jump through" they ARE there, to help in legitimate patience, who suffer long-term, acute, chronic pain.
They helped me for YEARS.
Until OBOZOCARE took over. NOW, it is the "INSURANCE COMPANIES" that dictate what and how much they will "cover."
IF your "dose" is "over" what the DEA claims that you should be (fit neatly, into imaginary, impossible boxes. Created by number-crunchers and bureaucrats.) then you and your doctor must jump through MORE "hoops" to make coverage possible.]
Either way, there ARE alternatives to those without insurance and/or your Obozocare does not cover the specific medication. which I found mostly NOT to be the case, they just limit the number of medications can be distributed per month which leaves most of the "fringe" patience in a bind. As they WILL cover the medication(s) but completely limit the number of tablets to a number so low, that it is ridiculous and if it weren't so danged SERIOUS, laughable.
Jumping through SO MANY loopholes now, it still saved my quality of life and maybe my life, period. One tends to go "insane" with persistent pain that NEVER goes away. I know that I am preaching to the choir here, as those who know what I am talking about, know that this is an actual reality.
Anyway, I digress. In RE to the Wichita Kansas patient above... I cringe at the "cold turkey" ...I have no clue how one could handle the opioid-induced hyperalgesia along with the withdrawal symptoms added-in for that "special flavor," I have NO clue... More power to you!!! Man!!!
More digression, apologies again...
There IS and ARE solutions to those who cannot afford their medication. Thanks to the pharmaceutical companies for offering these programs. They ARE there, you just have to look.
I hope that this helps anyone (even just ONE) that comes here, behind me. May you find at LEAST, some relief.

If so, then street heroin/fentanyl just got much cheaper. The White House under Trump says that it will go after drug prices..doesn’t look like it.
(BTW my omeprazole-Prilosec-went up 722% in last few months!)

America needs more people like you to stay in this great country and continue to speak out against ignorance with eloquence and finess.
The DEA above all else seeks job security and wants to vilify doctors for prescribing these drugs to the public. It's a shame, and they should be held accountable as the DEA is the catalyst for the rise in heroine use and overdose deaths across our nation.

Hi my name is Mel and with the government going after the opiods I've gone from 3 x 80mgs and 3 x 20 mgs for breakthrough pain a day to 3 x 40 and 3 x 10 a day. And they are going to keep going. At just the 3 x 80 mgs I was told I was 8 times over where they wanted me to be. I would love to talk more with you about this.
My theory is that the drug dealers are behind the pain pill extermination. Get rid of them and people will go to the street to get there meds back so they can have a life or kill themselves because they can't stand the pain or the fact that they are useless. Can't work can help with the house and now laying in bed your family must take care of you like you were 90. (Don't get mad just an example please). I hear and don't know personally that heroin is really cheap and every where very easy to get. Simple economic development. Supply and demand. The more you have to supply the more you can charge for it. The drug dealers are gonna cash in.

I understand patience with genuine Pain would buy them for what they were prescribed for.
The only other thing I can think is obviously the higher the toes you're more likely to get high. Mind you , You do run the risk of vomiting before that desired high . At which point you to totally wasted your money !
I can understand oxycodone selling for a $/mg as they are breakthrough pain meds and create a high .
