My name is Dave and I am thinking of having ACDF surgery. I have been dealing with this pain and numbness in my arms and neck for about 7 years now. I was not in any kind of accident or anything like that. I was told that it is just what it is. Over the years I have had three steroid injections on both sides and been through physical therapy and lots and lots of pain medications. Nothing seems to work (at least for too long). My NS says that the only reason that he is recommending the surgery is because I have exhausted all other options. Of course I am very nervous about having my neck cut into. I have been out of work for the last 7 months and would like to get this resolved, so my question is this. Does this surgery really work or am I better off going back to my regimen of pain medication, steroid injections and PT?  Oh yeah, I am only 43 and they want to fuse C6 Thru T1. What am I in for? Is it worth it?

Thanks for your input,
