I'm a 22 year old female... I came upon this message board before I had my surgery and I got kind of freak out! Well, I had my surgery Wednesday, the 26th. I was in a bit of pain...but not as bad as I expected. I've been taking my Lortab (hydrocodone) religiously and drinking LOTS of water. (Its tempting to take a bunch of pain medicine and just sleep the first couple days away...but don't forget to wake up and drink a few glasses of water. If you get dehydrated the pain will just increase and you will not heal as quickly.)

The worse part was waking up yesterday with my WHOLE body in pain... like I got hit by a car. My mom, a surgical nurse, told me that myalgia is a some what common reaction to anaesthesia. My neck and abdominal muscles were the most stiff... it was pretty debilitating.

I feel better today already... and the tonsillectomy itself wasn't bad. The pain is less severe than the pain caused by a bad case of tonsillitis. I've even been able to eat pretty normally. I've read a few posts of people complaining about the "fuzzy" or white things in the back of their throat...those are the scabs...so don't mess with them! They need to be there!

Good luck!
