My daughter had surgery to repair torn ACL/Miniscus 15 months ago. Surgery went well, along with therapy. She was able to play soccer in school 9 months later and didn't seem to have any issues. But now she is playing basketball and she is in alot of pain after playing. Do you think she might need xrays or an MRI done?

Hello, guest.
It's great to hear that your daughter's ACL and meniscus surgery went well and that she was able to return to sports. However, experiencing a lot of pain after playing basketball could be a sign that further evaluation is needed.
While many athletes can return to sports within 9-12 months after ACL surgery, recovery and rehabilitation can vary greatly between individuals. The transition to different sports might place varying demands on the knee. It's important to assess the nature of the pain. Is it similar to any pre-surgery pain, or is it a new type of pain? Does it occur only during certain movements or continuously?
Given the pain your daughter is experiencing, it would be advisable to consult with the orthopedic surgeon or a sports medicine specialist who is familiar with her case. They can provide a more accurate assessment and determine if further imaging, like X-rays or an MRI, is necessary.
A follow-up with her physical therapist could also be beneficial. They might need to adjust her rehabilitation program or provide specific exercises to strengthen the knee for basketball.
In the meantime, it might be wise to limit activities that exacerbate her knee pain. Continuing to play through significant pain could potentially lead to further injury. Using ice, rest, and over-the-counter pain relief (as advised by a healthcare professional) can help manage symptoms in the short term.
It's always better to be cautious, especially when it comes to post-surgical recovery and returning to high-impact sports.
Good luck.
