I had a full blown uti which left me miserable for a week (literally spent most of my time in the toilet with crazy pain even in the middle of the night). But I did not believe in anti biotics cos of the side effects and the risk of harming my body system.

i did a lot of research online and found d-mannose, a naturallY occurring sugar found in beech wood and some fruits. Apparently d mannose is thing in cranberries that helps uti. It works by preventing the E. coli bacteria from sticking to the walls of the utherus so they can be flushed out with more ease. I tried the pills and the powder and it worked for me I think. I have been drinking it for a few months now and I never got that kind of pain since. It did come back with the symptoms but much less severe and went away I within a day. when I feel like I'm going to have an attack I increase the frequency of d mannose tablet or powder mixed into warm water and drink lots of them. Water helps flush them out and d mannose probably helps flush them out more thoroughly.

they might not be found in pharmacies as they are not drugs but natural food. Buy them at health stores or order them online. Pls look it up first So you have a better idea How it works. Hope it will help you too. Pls. Nothing/ no one is worth you going through this pain. Go easy on the sex if it's the reason. Your husband should help and ago through this with you

I have the same problem as many of you. Oh the pain! I'm writing on here because 36 hours ago I had sex with my bf and I now have a UTI- it happens EVERY time. And what a nightmare when you live in a Small town like I do and the only option is A&E. I've been many times in the middle of the night when I just can't cope with the pain but the reception I get from the nurses and doctors is one of absolute loathing, and quite rightly so. It IS a waste of their time but as soon as I have the first antibiotic and some pain meds I feel better within the hour.

Now however I buy over the counter co-codamol add a few neurofen or solpadeine (sod the instructions on the back of the packet) so I'm so dosed up on pain meds I can usually get through till the morning. And drink LOADS of water to flush it out your system.

Thank God there are others with this problem!

P.s many antibiotics prescribed cause thrush so be aware and have some cranberry juice, and tampons dunked in natural yoghurt on standby.

Were/are you on birth control? Did your doc tell you that the after sex prescription would interrupted you birth control? My lady has that regiment now. Just wondering if it's like all other antibiotics.

I have had cronic UTI's since the age of 5 where i got them ateast every month! Ive seen a countless amount of doctors and had operations. I'm now 18 and still get them once every three months or so, the doctor said there's nothing I can do about! I find crouching on the floor and putting pressure down there helps me aswell as hot baths and urials. I was on medication for almost my whole childhood for this and am about to start taking tablets after sex. I just don't want to because it runs me down and gives me thrush. So I'm at the point to choose of I want to get uti or thrush..

Hi everyone. Im 21 years old and i frequently get UTIs- to the point that I am getting them at least 3 or 4 times a month and it is causing me absoloute HELL. My hygene has always been good; I shower on a daily basis and always use water instead of tissue when using the toilet. I have been to my doctor and have taken antibiotics but it just keeps on coming back. I drink plenty of water throughout the day and avoid using soaps with a PH balance. I will do whatever it takes to get rid of it as I am currently suffering from one and am in so much pain its unbearable. Any advice??

hello, i can understand what you people are going through. hell lot of pain, jitters before going to pee and having a nightmare to go to the washroom in the morning.
im 21 and have been suffering from persistent UTIs since last year. been on medication- antibiotics to the level of intra-veins! it subsided for a while and it took me time to realize it was due to sex. i started taking precautions washing every time after intercourse, peeing , must have had a gallon of cranberry juice, nothing seemed to help. 2 days would be fine, the third day id wake up in a nightmare.my periods are regular, and i dont seem to have any hormonal imbalance.
gradually, it dialed down to a sweet tinge of pain now and then and then died away. winters were comfortable, but now i can again feel it coming, working its way back, and i dont know what to do! i have tried EVERYTHING mentioned in the above posts, got all tests when it was on a flare, did everything for it to not come back.
it doesnt hurt when i pee, but it seems to hurt when i put pressure on my bladder, and a pain like that of a thorn-prick. i had got a CT scan nothing popped up.
im all clueless now.

I also get UTI's for no reason. I have tried absolutely everything to get rid of them. I had to give up my job as I was taking so much time off with them. Have been getting them 12 years. Seen three Urologists, had all the tests and they found no possible cause. I get them every few weeks, they totally cripple me, the burning pain is so severe I have to kneel on floor until the antibiotics kick in, which takes up to ten hours. I agree reading I am not the only one helps.

I am so glad I found this. I have been dealing with uti's for years. My gyn prescribed color to use every time I had sex since mine are the result of intercourse. Got this at Easter and it just will not go away. The urologist was a waste of time and money. I saw them twice. Both times they took cultures and the second time it came back positive, they gave up and have referred me to the infectious disease department of my local hospital. Mostly because I am allergic to so many antibiotics. This is awful. I never feel well. I feel like I'm just holding it at bay by taking this particular antibiotic. Ridiculous.

I just got over a bad UTI that turned into a bladder infection then into a kidney infection. I ran a 105 degree fever and was in pain all over my body. I'm so afraid this will happen again and ill end up in the hospital. I get them more and more often. I feel like its almost constant. I've tried every trick in the book... Why is this such major unsolvable problem for women?????

You are right ,it is a huge health issue that seems to be ignored!! As women we need to start demanding better research and management of this problem. I cannot remember the statistics but the cost for primary care is huge and the frightening thing is more and more infections are becoming resisitant to antibiotics,
There have been no new antibiotics on the market for awhile and this in time is going to cause a big problem particularly in the treatment of chronic utis .
Anyone that has suffered this horrendous disease NEEDS to be heard .

I am 80 yrs old and still get bladder infections. I will not take pills. Instead I take a juice glass of 100% cranberry juice, and  it' like a miracle. I won't start my daywithout it.XD

hi, there is no doubt that the relapse rate of you disease is very high. you also have to do some exercise, avoid spicy foods, alcohol and smoking. moreover, when your find you symptoms are gone, you also have to do those things and take pills one more week. if it is necessary, you also can take herbal tea or herbal medicine, which is good that can enhance your immunity system.
