I am 28 and I get this maybe once every 3-6 months.  Just like everyone else, everything seems to be moving very fast but I feel like I can slow myself down and operate at a normal speed.  It usually happens when I am focused on something.  I am restoring a car and it happened to me a couple months ago as I was working on it.  I was putting a piece back togehter and suddenly everything was going so quckly.

Unlike many people posting here, I like the feeling.  It feels like I am being very productive and I get a lot of work done while it is happening (though I wouldn't want it that way all the time).  I have never had any size distortion issues during it nor do I ever feel dizzy.  Everything is normal except moving extra quickly.

AIWS doesn't seem to apply, nor does any of the other things I have found online.  That said, I just want to say people should embrace it.  When things start moving quickly, do not panic.  Sit still for a moment and recognize that it is just perception.  Once you have done this, get back to doing what you were doing and focus on that task.  You will find that you can get a lot of work done during this.

Hello All,

Well my daughter just a few months ago started saying everything was going very fast and just crying asking me to please make it stop. She would say, "mom why are you doing this?" "Why is everything going so fast?" She is 7yrs old. She has also said she has been hearing screaming voices in her head. I've talked to her dr about this a couple times and it's just been, no big deal. But this past time we seen the dr about her fevers(sick for over 10 days w/fever 102.7) we talked about the voices and they have now put in a referal to have a psych evaluation at childrens hospital. which scares the hell out of me.

My husband thinks this is all a put on and does not believe in mental health issues and what she is saying. He also doesn't believe in pms... I believe and know it's ALL real...

Anyways I remember having this when I was younger, so I know what she is talking about and how scary it is. I wish I could just take it all away from her.. I'm almost 40 and haven't had that feeling in over 20 years. I even forgot about it until she started saying things about it.

After reading all the post, I can't believe there are so many of us out there and nothing can be done. I wish I had people to talk to about it back when I was dealing with it. It's not AIWS or the CI... She talks about it, just as I remember.. Do  any of you hear the voices? You never really make them out, just a lot of screaming..

I had an awesome childhood, never abused (like everyone seems to ask) had a normal life. I still do, well as much as I can.

Is there anything I can do that will help her thru it? I can't stand to see her so afraid....

Thank you for any help...

my daughter did start by haveing memory loss, not remember the sequence of doing things like getting dressed and that you need underwear on before clothing.. doing up shoe laces.. She has had several episodes of hullucinating. The first one was a grumpy olf man in her head counting. The higher the number the worse she got. He would laugh at her when she cried and he would stomp round her head. The next major one was where there where 4 people sitting at a table writing numbers, over and over. I got her to draw a picture and it was amazing. Being just 5 at the time she drew stick people, but the picture of the 4 people was so accurate it was scarey. She has had other ones but not as scarey as those. We went thru all medical testing.. and was refered to a psych who just wanted to put her on meds.. As my pervious post say, she has been diagnoside with convergence Insuffiency. The Dr said that it explained out the fast moving thing, the things growing big and small, near and far and stomache pains. He also said that maybe because she was freaking out so badly when these episodes happened, she was trying to "put herself" into a dream like state (for want of a better phrase", to try and escape and maybe that would explain the hullucinasion. I don't have a definate answer for that. Have you had your daughter specially tested for C I ? It does not show up in a regular eye exam. We had her examined by 3 different optomitrist's 12 months ago and they told me other than her being longsighted there was nothing wrong with her eyes. It wasn't til we went and see someone who specialises in such thing.. It definately help due to him (the DR) having the same thing when he was young. I'm just saying it helped us. Anything is worth trying to help our babies thru this horror. Everyone says, "oh, they will grow out of it or it will pass. When your child is screaming for you to make these thing go away, and saying " But mummy, if you really loved me you'd make it stop"... it is gut wrenching because you can't do anything except cuddle her if she will let you. They may grow out of it but what about the here and now ? i know that even tho i have an answer it could take a month, 6 months .. 2 years before before we can truelly help her.

Hey guys, really amazing to read this stuff. I have the exact same symptoms as everyone else and just had an episode the other day after 2-3 years without one. It is weird hearing some people say it is scary or frightening, even when I was a kid I actually enjoyed this feeling. Almost like you are high and you have super human senses.

I found that it used to happen to me a lot when i would be reading a book, usually in class. I would always know it was coming because i would get this strange sensation of "rolling forward" right at the start. Almost like there was no gravity and i was just tumbling around although of course im sitting perfectly still. I did find this would happen a lot when playing video games, reading, in a quite area thinking or focusing intensley on something. (Maybe its human evolution and our brains are going into hyper drive to help us solve problems) I know i am probably not, but when it happens I certainly feel like I can process information much quicker.

I have to say though I don't really think this is Alice in Wonderland. I would say the main symptom is time distortion and sound perception and racing thoughts. I noticed someone mention when they touched their fingers they feel really thin, and I notice that as well. However, I have no history of migraines, never even get a migraine when this occurs and certianly sizes arent distorted too extremely. From what I read about AWS is sometimes people cant gauge how for away cars are or that a door handle is larger then the door itself. Certainly not like that for me. I have asthma (that's pretty much it) but so did my sisters and they never knew what I was talking about.

I think it may be something new that has not been identified yet. I know it seems like there are a lot of people here who have it but I have never actually met one other person in real life who has. My theory is that it has something to do with adrenaline, electrical mis-firings in your brain, or increased blood flow to certain areas in the brain.

So just curious of who actually believes this is AWS and who thinks it might be something different. How many of us are white males in north america?

I'm completely blown away that other people had this feeling. I've never been able to explain it to anyone but my sister. It seems like it's brought on when things that are supposed to move at a normal pace are sudden moving alot faster than normal. My daughter was just watching Elmo's World and they're talking about slow and fast. They tell a once upon a time story but the narrator is talking really fast, kind of like they're in fast forward and i had to skip over that episode because i would have one of these episodes if i didn't. I've had them since i was young as well and have yet to ask my doctor about it. I'm not in the mood to be looked at like i'm crazy when people have no idea what i'm talking about. But you guys aren't alone. Mine would usually happen at night, and i would have to watch a TV show for a while to just listen to everyone talking normal and moving normal for the feeling to go away. You LITERALLY feel like you have to shake your hands or shake your head to make the feeling just STOP, it may work for a moment but once it takes hold of you, you have to ride it out or find something that works for you to make it stop. Hopefully someone will find the answer as to what this is.

wow, can somebody who gets this frequently please go to doctor to tell us what it is?? lol I used to get it a lot when i was younger but not so much now, just like everyone else (im 14) i got that feeling like everything was small or distant, but i didn't really see everything around me moving fast, i just kind of felt it, and my thoughts were going really fast, this voice in my head (sometimes multiple voices) was really urgent and kind of patronising, i only used to get it when going to bed but about a week ago i got it in the day playing a video game lol (COD) and i kind of got it today to, these two times have been the first in a long time. Also i sometimes get just the distant feeling or just the fast one. Before everything is kind of quiet and calm, except i feel nervous and jittery, and afterwards i feel normal but still kind of jittery, and i always get this crazy feeling that people are watching me when it happens. Also i used to get it in my dreams which was kind of scary.

Just a thought, has anyone who has this, or has had dreams about this have dreams about lines?? i know its random but i always get this crazy line dream when i dream about it, if you do dream about it, what are your dreams like. This is like the only real nightmare i used to get, and when i was little i would go crying into my parents room, and when they asked me what my dream was about, i would always make something up like vampires or something because the dream was so weird and hard to explain and embarising :( plz help lool

You will laugh at this. Mine is a little different.... Everything becomes dull! SLOW if I might add. Everything slows down and becomes dull.. It also affects me where I feel dull towards everything. Everything basically loses emotion. Like nothing is real. Like of someone is really upset about something this thing makes it feel like they really don't care. Just lazy! Anyways! Shorts burst. Only had them once in a greaaaat while for a couple years in my mid teens. :) little different than you guys eh? But totally connected. Same as yours but slow. God Bless you all!

Sorry to say.. but she just has two problems. They are unrelated as you can see. She just has a eye problem to go along with speed. No one else has that problem here. Actually everyone says they don't because it is basically the same thing as aiws Alice in Wonderland symptom. Which everyone here says they do not have. Sorry but they are not related.

Funny thing as I wrote in another post. Everything for me slows down.

Thanks for this heads up- I've never heard of this before, & it does seem to describe what I experience better than AIWS.
I am yet to read anything that details it being a "Gift, carrier etc".
Can you provide me with any authors I could look more closely at?
Cheers Julie

It's now been 4 days since my daughter got her new glasses.. They have lenses in then that are designed for convergence infufficency. OMG what a change. Beofre she got them, we would go in the car and would not even get a block away and she wopuld complain about stomach pain (all related to the disorder), i always thought it was the subwoofer behind her seat that was vibrating so i have not had music on in the car for the longest time. Now, the first day she wore her glasses, no pains, no moaning and i had music on.. WOW we went for a 45 minutes drive and nothing.. Her "big n ' small vision is still constant but not as bad and mostly her near and far vision and the fast moving tings have almost stopped. We do lots of eye exercises daily and will have to continue this for some time but overall, WOW what a change. My daughter is almost back to the beautiful happy child she was 2 years ago. Time will tell in the furture how long this takes to resolve but at the moment we are moving forward and that better that going round in circles which we've been doing for the past 12 months.

Wow thats wonderful news Ajandj!
I never related it before but I too, have had 'convergence' problems with my eyes. It was 1st picked up in a routine eye test at school when I was around 7yo. No action was ever taken, & it has got progressively worse for me over the years.
Its very interesting to note seemingly unrelated symptoms that are common amongst us!
Would be wonderful to see a website where we could all contribute via questionnaires as too our symptoms- we may finally solve this puzzle!
Anyone with the skills willing to put their hand up? :)

Mine too started in dreams and i remember it for the most part, always the same one. I would be standing on this familiar part of railroad tracks that i know and i would be staring down the tracks, nothing would be coming nothing would be happening and then the fast feeling would start in the dream and build up to a state of panic until i bursted awake screaming. The feeling would remain all night and i would remain in a state of panic. My grandma used to have to stay with us so that my mom could sleep for work. I was about 6 when these started. I hadn't had them until those stopped in young childhood. Obviously there was no drug use back then. I just recently started getting them again now 24. I have traumatic brain traumas being blown up over seas in Iraq had used drugs as a teen and still no fast brain. Now medically retired with nothing to do and resting i start getting them. Wth rightttt
