I saw a holistic gynecologist several years ago and she checked my hormones and also told me it might be stress related. She told me that my cortisol levels were high. I took an herbal supliment, chaste berry for my cycle and adreset for the stress and they worked for a few months, but a few months ago my cycle returned to being strange. I'm frustrated and don't know what else to try. Last time I went to a gynecologist she said all my tests were normal, but here I am again, 3 weeks of bleeding.

My cycle has never been normal. I didn't have my first until I was 16 and immediately had irregularity problems. My mom suggested I see a doctor who put me on birth control to regulate. My period became monstrous! No matter if I was wearing 2 pads and a tampon the moment I stood up, I would bleed down my legs and into the floor. (Sorry for graphic ). I went through 4 or 5 different ones before I finally said no more! Since I was young and a virgin I fought against getting a PAP.
I've spent the rest of my time going through irregularity problems like missing my period for 2 and 3 months then bleeding for a month. But at least I didn't feel like I was bleeding to death like on birth control.
I'm 23 now, and the past year has been much worse. My cycle became super heavy and I began to bleed for 2 and 3 months at a time with barely a week's break. I finally gave in and had a PAP that came back completely normal. But my doctor suggested that I try the depo shot that would slow and eventually stop my period since I'm not planning a baby anytime soon. Since it was supposed to eventually stop instead of regulate, I thought it would be a good choice.
I think it was the most painful shot I've ever recieved in my hip. :P It hurt the rest of the day, all the way down to my knee and was sore for days after upon bumping the spot. But within 2 days, my period had fully stopped. After 3 months of heavy bleeding, I celebrated of course! :D
But since then, I've started again. Other than the fact that it isn't running into the floor when I stand, it's been the worse 2 weeks of my life! I'm bleeding so heavy that pads + super tampon allow me to leak through onto my clothes in about 30mins. I've been taking midol like a junky because I've had non stop migranes and cramps that leave me doubled over in tears. These cramps feel like someone is stabbing me with a crooked blade and twisting it in my lower stomach and lower back. They hurt all the way down into my pelvis. And last almost all day! All I can do is take advil and midol, and lay with a heating pad and hope for relief eventually. And I'm passing huge clots and colors from bright red to deep red.
I suppose I'll wait it out. Give it another week at least. All the doctors I've ever had have given me the same problems as you guys. BUT! I have lost 40 lbs in the past year... so wtf? Must not be a weight issue if I'm losing weight and still having major issues. I have read all your posts! And Have four extra windows up to research PCOS and Endometriosis, another disease and even Shepherd's Purse. If it doesn't stop soon, I'll be back to the doctor demanding action! :P And I'll let you guys know what happens regardless.
I do have a couple tips for you. (1) Use a heating pad when you are cramping. You might not think that would help but it does!
(2) For those over 21, of course! My mom suggests drinking a glass of wine each day you're cramping because it thins the blood and eases them.
(3) This is the most UNSEXY tip. But hey... who cares about being sexy when your wrenched over in a fetal position feeling like you are going to die? But the tip is using Depends or any adult diaper for your heavier nights and even days when you are planning to be home. If they don't fit, wear them like a pad. I promise if you let go of the fact you are wearing a diaper >.> When you wake up in the morning to find you haven't ruined another cover, set of sheets and pajamas, you'll be greatful for them.
I hope the tips help. And I'm thinking about you all. Hope everyone gets better or at least finds a way to live without too much pain and agony. And yes, you'll get moody, because you are tired and in pain. I've cried more these past 2 weeks than the whole year before it. Good luck to everyone! And sorry this was so long! <3

Hi! I'm 13 and got my first period about 6 months ago... ever since the beggining it has been heavy and always lasts 9 days. My mother is aware of this but seems to think it's just because im new to this... i was driving in the car with my dad one day and i went through a tampon, pad and my pants! Luckily my pants were black so it was not visible!!! Anyways, whenever i get my period i gain weight and can't work out because it makes it worse... gym class is awful for me because we have to run alot and i always get paranoid and feel like im leaking. Can someone please explain why it is so long and heavy and why i feel as though i cant participate in gym because i get fat and feel like im leaking??? Thanks

hey im the same age and i know how you feel... my period lasts 9 days and comes every 20 days... i have 11 days without it each month and its insanely annoying... i know that i can talk to my mom but its just awkward for me... we r in the same boat (never kissed a boy... ive never even danced with one) ik it sounds pathetic but you want to wait for the right moment right? you want ur first kiss to be memerable? i think that when your mom is not busy then u should try to talk to her and just say that it is lasting for a long time and that u need to talk to someone with exper4ience because you feel concerned :) i hope this has been somewhat of a help for you

Did you doctor say this was normal? Your symptoms seem to be the closest to what I'm experience. Not bright red... it's like the flow and color of the last day of my period—very little, dark, and clotted but it hasn't stopped for 2.5 weeks... I don't feel ill and am not cramping at all. I don't have health insurance so I can't go to the doctor to see if something is wrong... just want to know that I'm not dying ;)
