I was too diagnosed with interstitial cystitis only to recently be told that my doctor had changed his mind and didn't think I had it after all. I have struggled with this problem since I was a toddler but had very few flare ups until recently. I am now 21 and struggle with burning after urination on almost a daily basis. I had a cystoscopy done only to show that I had polyps and inflammation in the bladder. My bladder was stretched and the polyps were removed but I still have no relief. I was put on Elmiron but that didn't help either. I turned to herbal remedies and I drink raspberry tea, marshmallow root, and catnip on a daily basis. It seems to help keep my urine less acidic but I still do not have the relief I am looking for. I recently had to cancel a trip to Australia because of this condition and sadly it is controlling my life. No doctor seems to know what it is and every time I get a diagnosis they go back on it and say they don't think that is it. I am seeing a specialist at the University of Kentucky in July who is specializes in female conditions such as this. If I find out any information as to what causes this I will let everyone know. I understand how difficult it can be to live with this and have no one truly understand what you are going through.

Hey guys! First let it be known I am NOT a doctor or any form of medical expert, so take my reasoning with a grain of salt. I've had the same problems as y'all, (the burning after peeing and such) and I too have been tested. I realized that, as I was taking the "pee test" that It didn't hurt as bad as before. As time went on I started realizing that *water* is the answer. When I took that test I had to drink as much water as I could. If you don't drink enough water, your bladder will try to empty itself all the way after you eat, and it leaves behind nothing. I believe this is what causes it. Chug a ton of water for some relief, then keep on top of it for later. Again, not an expert, just expirenenced. Hope I helped!

Hi all
I feel all of your pains, and I'm not sure if someone has already said this, but water is the answer. It seems too simple, I know. But it really is. When you go to the bathroom and there isn't enough fluid for you to pee, it hurts. Burns. Drink a lot of water to immediately relieve your pain, then continue drinking throughout your meals so whenever you go to the bathroom you don't experience this. This is difficult for doctors to diagnose since there are no tests you can perform to find it.

It is more likely because your not drinking enough your urine is more concentrated where as if you drink a lot it's more diluted.
It could also be because your not peeing enough because your body is getting dehydrated through not having enough water there for the urea in the urine is breaking down and forming ammonia and that's what is causing the burning sensation when you pee.

Hi, I take it you have been tested for uti and a bladder infection because it sounds like it could be a bladder infection you have.

I have exactly the same symptoms you have @butterflied. The doctors think I have IC but I feel as if its more than that. Everything is so frustrating until the point I'm scared to have sex. The way my vagina feels, it seems as if sex would hurt. This has been going on for quite some time now. No one seems to help me.
