I have been taking penicillin on and off for a while now, and have never really questioned its side effects. Yesterday, when I opened a new box, I read the package insert for some reason. Now I wish I hadn't, because it says that penicillin can causes vasulitis! Can anyone tell me what the likelihood is that this could happen to me, and what is vasculitis actually?

Research suggests that that infections is most probably the leading cause of vasculitis - an inflammation of the blood vessels. It is estimated that around ten per cent of vasculitis cases is due to long term use of penicillin, though. I have to admit that that sounds like an awful lot to me! Perhaps it is time to seek out alternative remedies to whatever it is that you are taking penicillin for? if you will share what you are being prescribed penicillin for, perhaps we can all think of other medication that you could take.
