Hi, my husband has been acting really strange lately. He walked without any balance and often had vertigo and nausea. I barely managed to convince him to visit a doctor, and after some tests, it turned out that he has viral labyrinthitis. A doctor prescribed him some antiviral drugs and corticosteroids. Did anyone managed to recover from this condition?

Hi, I also had a viral labyrinthitis, and fortunately, I managed to recover. I heard that we are more likely to recover completely than those who have a bacterial labyrinthitis. However, some patients suffer from permanent imbalance and hearing problems after viral labyrinthitis. When I was diagnosed for the first time, a doctor made a mistake and thought that I have a vestibular neuritis. It is a very similar disease. However, it turned out later that he was wrong, because the treatment wasn’t working at all. I went to another doctor who did a better examination, and diagnosed me with the viral labyrinthitis. He prescribed me some antiviral drugs and I was finally noticing some results.

I'm dealing with this right now as well. The doctor said it would clear up in about 10 days and really didn't make too big of a deal, I suppose it runs its course just like any other virus, I also suppose people with worse cases then myself would have a longer recovery time.

It usually goes away on its own...I am one of the unlucky ones that has permanent damage...I had it Sep 2009 and I still am dizzy, but vertigo subsided after 3 days...I wish him the best!!! I'm sure his will pass...
