A few days ago I was about to have sex with my bf and when he got down there he said my labia majora and vulva were all red and puffy and I was also dry. He could not make me wet trust me he tried. We ended up not having sex but the next day I was fine. Does anyone have any ideas what would cause this?

Hi: It depends on a number of things, it could be just your hormone levels, it could be an infection - such as a yeast infection. Do you have any discharge? It could also be irritation from laundry detergent, tight clothing etc. IF you still have red and puffiness in that region, I would advise you to try a yeast infection medication 1st. Change too unscented, liquid detergent, just wear cotton underwear, and try to wear looser clothing. And try and air dry as much as possible. I really think it is more to do with either Yeast infection or just hormonal, but due to your labia being sore, pretty sure it's infection. So good luck!

If it were an infection or hormone levels wouldn't it last longer then a day? I mean this seriously only lasted a day if that.

Through your cycle your hormones vary each day, so since you haven't had one problem since. Then I would say hormones! Every woman is different and every cycle can be different. That's why God's a MAN!!! ;-) XD ;-)

Could the redness and puffiness be caused by rough sex? Considering it only lasted a day?

Hi there, it is possible that the puffiness could be caused by rough sex. Not to ask a rude question but exactly how rough are we talking here? I mean, it could actually have been some mild bruising. What do you think?

Due to the fact that you weren't lubricated, it would be like rubbing soft skin against soft skin - basically causing a sort of rug burn!!! NOW that's a PUN!!! 8-| ;-) XD But seriously your labia and the opening of your vagina are VERY sensitive, so since it happened for one day - it would be more likely an irritation. What I was getting at is your lack of wetness, that would be from hormones! IF this happens again, use a water based lubricant with a condom, or get the lubricated condoms! Because sometimes certain lubricants can actually break down a condom!!!!! So good luck and health, and GENTLENESS!!!!! ;-) XD

So then the redness, puffiness, and dryness pretty much indicates that sex was the cause?

If it cleared up the following day then yes! NOW there is another chanel here, if your partner wasn't wearing a condom, you could actually have a reaction to his sperm! But I doubt this, as you stated that you couldn't get lubricated! This happens from time to time, depending on the time of your cycle! In nature we are more likely to have sex when we are about to have our period! So sometimes our brain - which is our biggest sex organ - just doesn't "help" us along! If you have this again and again, It wouldn't hurt getting your hormones checked, our sex hormone is Testosterone! This hormone makes us ovulate, without it we can't ovulate, BUT if it is low we can still ovulate, but are less likely to lubricate! So just keep an eye on it OK? Is your Labia flaky at all? IF so and your partner uses a condom you could actually have a latex allergy! There are SO many reasons for lack of lubrication! I just like to rule out the most common and practical ones first!

I would say that yeah it would be a good idea to get something lubricated to help facilicate the process. Although a lot of people go with water-based lube I'd say that silicone-based lube works better. You can find it at any adult toy store and it works like a dream. That and it works well with condoms too! What do you think?

I agree that it may have been an issue of lubrication. Can you let us know if that works out or if you have another incidence? I'd relaly appreciate it. Thanks!
