I have a question. What is vulvaectomy?

Loading...

Vulvaectomy is treatment for cancer of vulva. most comon treatment of vulvaectomy is surgery, then wide local excision, which means removal of the cancer and some normal tissue, or radical local excision, meaning removal of the cancer and a larger portion of normal tissue (also lymph nodes). Laser surgery may be also used as a treatment of vulvaectomy. Sometimes docotr recommend skinning vulvectomy, meaning removal of only the skin that contains the cancer. there are another three types of vulvaectomy: simple (removal of the entire vulva, but no lymph nodes), partial vulvectomy (removal of less than the entire vulva), radical vulvectomy (removal of the entire vulva, as well as lymph nodes around it. mostly skin graft from another part of your body and plastic surgery may be used to make an artificial vulva). Besides the procedures, as with other types of cancer radiation therapy or chemotherapy may be used; off course, radiation and chemotherapy may be used alone or with (before, after) the surgery. First uses x-rays or other high-energy rays to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Radiation may external (comining from machinery) or internal (putting materials that contain radiation through thin plastic tubes into the area where the cancer cells are found). Chemotherapy means using drugs to kill cancer cells. Chemotherapy may be given by mouth or intravenously.
