How are you guys? My husband and I – we don’t live together. He is in the other city because of his job. Well, he called me today and he told me that he was feeling bad today so he went to see the doctor. I didn’t believe that something bad is wrong with him but he told me that doctors think that he has recurrent pericarditis. They are not sure, they will wait for tests to be sure about this.

I did some research and I found that there are two types of recurrent pericarditis.

Do you know what are differences between the incessant type and the intermittent type of recurrent pericarditis?

Thank you!

Hi there. Yes, there are two clinical types of recurrent pericarditis. The term incessant type applies to the patients in which discontinuation or attempts to wean off anti – inflammatory treatment always ensures a relapse in a period that is usually less than six weeks. Usually this situation can be seen after discontinuation of the usual anti – inflammatory drugs. The second term, intermittent type refers to those patients with symptoms – free intervals conventionally that are longer that those six weeks that I was talking about, without treatment. But he needs to find you what type of recurrent pericarditis he has. Did he told you more about this?

Hello you two.

There is acute and chronic recurrent pericarditis as well. Acute pericarditis usually lasts less than a few weeks and chronic has two types – including the incessant type which occurs within period of six weeks weaning medical treatment for an acute episode. The second one is the intermittent type which occurs after six weeks.

So if we are talking about acute pericarditis, the most common symptom is very sharp and stabbing chest pain behind the breastbone or pain in the left side of your chest.

Now, you need to tell us what kind of pain he has?

Does he have any of those symptoms?

Well there is a huge difference and that is why you need to know what type of recurrent pericarditis he has. I know that now it is a little bit hard to know this since you two are not at the same country, but I believe that he should tell you more.

Other members told you a lot about it, so you can be prepared on whatever it is. I really hope that tests are done and that your husband now knows what type of recurrent pericarditis he has, if he has it at all.

Take care you two.
