My sister manages to take care of three kids, one of them with Down syndrome and also does another, part time job. I know that life is not easy for her, so we are all trying to help as much as possible. Her son that has Down syndrome is only 5 year old. What happens when kids with Down syndrome become older?

Well, sadly, they mostly do not live that long to be called adults. Even though the estimated lifespan for them is set at about 40, many of them do not reach their maturity. And also, their condition will not improve as they become older. The IQ and abilities remain the same, unfortunately.
