Hello

I am a 21 year old girl. I ve went to the doctor because i want to go on the bill. They asked me about my situation and suggested me to take a papa test. They told me that all women should take this kind of test once a year. However I dont understand much about this test. Could you please explain more for me about this.
By the way, I am so painful in my abdominal area wherever I get my period. I had period the first time when I was 13. Until I was 16, I had this problem for one year. Ater that , everything was ok , and now I am having it again. I dont know whether or not this problem is normal thing. Should I go to doctor to ask them? I will have the result from papa test next month.

Thank you so much for your attention.

I am looking forward from you.

Brs,

Chiaki

Hi there. You are probably talking about a pap smear (or test which ever your doc likes to call it) It is a regular check up for women over the age of 18 or who are sexually active. The doctor will insert a clear plastic device into your vaginal opening and lock it open so she can take a sample from your vaginal lining to make sure that everything down there is ok. It is relatively pain free but it is awkward. You have to spread your legs far apart with your feet in sturups. I would suggest having this done anually, even though it is so awkward. Good luck! Also, when you go in for this, make sure to bring up any other concerns you should have. You mentioned about painful periods, I would talk with the doc. about them when you are there.

Pregnancy-associated plasma protein A: Abbreviated as PAPPA or PAPP-A. A large zinc-binding protein that acts as an enzyme, specifically a metallopeptidase. The gene for PAPPA is in chromosome band 9q33.1. PAPPA has been used in prenatal genetic screening and studies of atherosclerosis. Women with low blood levels of PAPPA at 8 to 14 weeks of gestation have an increased risk of intrauterine growth restriction, trisomy 21, premature delivery, preeclampsia, and stillbirth. PAPPA is present in unstable atherosclerotic plaques, and circulating levels are elevated in acute coronary syndromes which may reflect the instability of the plaques. PAPPA may be a marker of unstable angina and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack).

It's not having sex itself that causes cervical cancer. But if your partner has an STD, he can give it to you during sex. Then, an STD can cause cell changes in the cervix (or the neck of the uterus) that then can lead to cervical cancer.

Papa smear checks the cervical cells, and if there are changes. These changes can come in different grades, and the mildest forms don't necessary require treatment nor lead to cancer.
