I doubt many people can even bench their weight 1.0X. I doubt I could get 1.5 times but it'd be close..... 8 min mile is just a warmup....

There are a lot of weight lifters out there that could easily bench bw x 1.5, but couldn't run an 8 min mile.

I was told I have the mind of a 15 year old... :umno: That wasn't a compliment, was it???
I agree with Rob. In shape is different for everyone.
Am I in shape? On the outside I look good. I fit USAF standards for my height/weight. On the inside, not so good.
I was healthier when I was overweight.
I think part of being in shape is what you do everyday to maintain it. You're not in shape if you're sitting on a couch doing squat, even if you have a buff body.

1) Being "in shape" refers to many different aspects of fitness-cardio, strength, flexibility, body weight & composition. Being well-rounded in all these components means that the person's in shape.

2) Yes, I'm in shape

Definitely can't bench that much (though I can do at least 13-15 pull ups in one sitting- that's my body weight)...I'm not a body builder by any means...
sub 8 min mile seems pathetically slow...scary to see that now I rarely hit this pace during training (except during recovery jogs in speedwork sessions)

:1: being "in shape" is kind of a well-rounded proposal.
am i in shape?
my 5K time is 3 minutes off where it was last year at this time, so i feel like a slacker.
As far as "in shape", you definitely are...
I think you bring up a good point, though, in shape is very different than being competitive. Taking that 3 minutes or more off the 5K time (which you will once you're feeling well) is all about competition.
I think I'm in decent shape. Parts of me could use more work, especially my upper body. As far as my competition level...I would love to be more competitive out there. I also think there are limits to what one can do with what ones got for any given race, even if he or she is in pretty good shape.

by some standards I am....some I'm not.....go figure. I should live a long life, if my accident-prone style doesn't kill me first :|
