Hi, I live with my wife and two children in a small apartment. Few day ago, my mother in law became a widow, and she’s too old to live alone. I wouldn’t mind if she lived with us, but there is just not enough space. My wife is aware of this too. What procedures are necessary for placing elderly into a home?

I know how hard this decision is. I was in the similar situation when I had to put my father into a home. It is the most difficult decision that I ever had to make. I wasn’t judged by my friends because they understood my situation. I had two little children and a husband with cancer, two jobs and no room in the flat. There was no way I could take care of my sick father too. Fortunately, he didn’t blame me for doing this. There are some procedures that are necessary for placing elderly into a home, but it’s not complicated. You have to make sure that he will get his pension (except the part that goes to the home he is in), make sure that he will have all the expenses covered, and similar things. A supervisor of the home you choose will explain everything about those procedures to you.
