I had my tonsils removed a week and a half ago. The pain is pretty much gone minus a small sore spot on my right side. The white scabby stuff is a thin layer cuz I can see the pink of my throat through it. I do have a scratchy feeling. But does anyone know when the holes close up? I'm getting tired of getting food stuck in the holes.

I'm on day 9 of my tonsillectomy and most of the stabbing has come off (it's not a nice feeling as I swallowed all of mine). The worst day for me was day 5. My doctor had prescribed me the strongest pain killers and from after the operation I had to try to eat foods like bread roles and salt sticks. It's really hard but you will get through it. I almost have no pain (with the pain killers now) but I still can't seem to swallow my food down without the assistance of water. I'm constantly craving everything I can't eat and it's getting to a point where I think to myself "will I ever be able to eat normally again?" It's mentally exhausting but we can get through it guys.

I'm on day 7 and wondering the same thing too it's absolutely discusting if food gets stuck I hate things like that no way can i just leave it i have to make sure nothing is in there lol! I've been gargling very weak salt water nearly every day most of that awful white stuff has gone but I think scabs are falling off from the very back :/ I just hope like mad I don't have permanent holes but one of my friends has permanent holes from hers but 2 members of my family haven't so I'm guessing different people different things happen :)

It goes away in like 2 weeks and the scabs dont hurt unless you played with it,poked it with a straw and your diets messed up

I’m on day 5. Severe earache and pain when I wake up. Been able to eat soft foods but haven’t braved anything else yet. Food gets stuck in the holes in the back and I really struggle with getting it out, don’t wanna be prodding about incase I damage something so hoping it will remove its self with me drinking lots of water. Hope it doesn’t take too long getting over!

Day 5 after my tonsillectomy - does anyone else have lots of white stuff at the back of their throat? Is it food lodged in there? If so, how's it going to heal with food lodged in there?

05/27/22 -- I'm on year 10 after having my tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. The holes never closed, only healed into deep caverns/pockets. To this day I still get food stuck in the holes, it's awful. I'm wondering if anyone else can relate. I never brought it up to my doctor because I thought it was normal, but now that I have strep I used an Otoscope to look at my throat and noticed just how deep the pockets are. Googling 'deep pockets after tonsillectomy' or 'tonsillectomy holes never healed' brought me here. Doesn't seem like people are talking about it. Since I need a strep test anyway I'll show the doctors the pictures I took, but hopefully someone can tell me it's normal and not causing any issues.

Hiya I’ve been having issues with food getting stuck in the pockets LOADS, been prowling the Internet and I’ve managed to combine multiple tips and found some things that really help, you practically have no gag reflex now so try to gargle or swallow water while sticking your tongue out, also doing this while lying down and on each side of your head really helps your tongue stop water blocking you from being able to reach the holes themselves, really hope this helps as I was panicking loads till I figured this out
