The last time I painted the bathroom after we'd shower you could see wetness on the walls and even runs from this wetness. (It wasn't the paint)
Was this due to the kind of paint I bought? (Satin finish) or maybe just the quality of the paint? I'd like to paint the bathroom again but don't want this to happen again. :?

It could be the water.

We have hard water here, and it makes its presence known with trails, etc. A real PITA when it comes to the laundry - dark clothes are afraid to jump in the washer.

It probably was, Achey, you want to use semi-gloss for wet areas like kitchen and bath, at least that's what I always did and so does my dad. That seems to put up more of a waterseal than the satin, which is flatter and goes better in all the other rooms in your house. Because the humidity is so high in the bathroom, using semi will also make the paint job last longer.

If there is and excessive about of humidity (do you have an exhaust fan?) you may even want to look into using an oil based paint, not latex.

I thought this asked "Who's the pain expert".

Either way, I can't really help you. Sorry for wasting your time.

Thanks! I'll try that. No excessive amount, and I use the fan. I'm not sure what kind of paint the previous owner used but the problem never occured until I re-painted.

There's actually such thing as "bathroom paint" which I imagine is just an oil based paint or a type of acrylic that's very impervious to moisture. we used it on our bathroom years ago. It's a little more expensive, but in the 5 or 6 years we were in the house it never ran.

Are you talking permanent streaks? On my bathroom walls the water droplets make the wall turn lighter, and the water trail is lighter also. However, once it evaporates you can't see it.

Kind of. Except I can still see it after it evaporates when the light hits it just so.

Call your local paint store and see what they say, is there a Sherwin Williams or what the heck's that other one......I know the streaks are likely from using the satin paint but I hate oil based too which is why I use the semi gloss and have had no trouble with staining. But see what they advise.
