Hi,
Ive been with my bf for a little while now and we are not sexually active per se...As in there has not been intercourse, but there may have been transferance of fluids :S....My cycle usually works like clockwork, but as of today i am 12 days late. I have thought my period was beginning several times now and it hasn't. I have been observing pinkish brownish discharge and i assumed it was a sign it was about to begin. Im still waiting...
The last thing that I am possibly willing to consider is that i may somehow be pregnant :S. So is it possible to become pregnant without penetration and in the presence of only pre-cum at most??? And if so, is my discharge indicative of it???
Im too scared to do an hpt, plus its been 12 days since i "missed" y period, is it too late to detect hcg levels?
Help Me!!!

i took an hpt today by clearblue, it came back negative, phew...I also ironically got my period later today...i think, finally, 95% sure its the real deal...
Anyway, I've been talking to a few ppl and have been reading a lot of the other forum posts and decided to brush up on my human physiology and endocrinology...
The sad thing is that a lot of the symptoms that are used to tell if you're pregnant are the same as those seen in PMS or even as early as ovulation.
I was experiencing the following:
- late period
- pink/brown discharge (which i "misinterpreted" as my period starting)
- frequent urination (this is not uncommon for me :S right before my period starts anyway...)
- horrible moodswings (I have never been this hormonal in my life, usually before/during my period I am very mellow; this time I was crying then happy, then upset, then worried, etc. In retrospect, I don't know how my bf was able to put up with it!)
All of the above can be found in symptoms of pregnancy. I was not willing to think that was possible so I delayed testing myself for a while. But this morning after two weeks exactly and many false alarms for my period to begin, I sucked it up, bought an hpt and did the test, it took me 1 minute, and the result was a clear negative.
Then later today, I got what is actually once and for all what I beleive to be my period...not just discharge or spotting, but like i normally am in the first day of my period...Can you say relief???
My only suggestion to those of you who are worried about a late period and/or being pregnant and unusual froms of discharge that you dont normally experience is not to worry!!!
Stress is one the major causes of irregular periods or at least in making you late. Second of all, the hormones of just being intimate can also ironically enough cause your normal system to be all out of sorts. I have a very regular cycle and so i was especially frightened about a late period. But there are many things that can throw it off course.
However, there are situations in which you should take more caution and be more aware of your symptoms:
- if you're experiencing painful urination (burning)
- if your discharge has an obviously unusual odour or very odd colour, some ppl have claimed to have black discharge!!! this could be a tell-tale sign of an infection
- If you're worried about pregnany and along with the above PMS symptoms you also experience nausea, and darkening of the circles around the nipples (these two i did not experience and are far more indicative of pregnancy than the rest, although even nausea seems normal)
To make a long story short, when in doubt remove all doubt!!! (take an hpt, go see your doctor, if you dont have one, get one, get them to refer you to a gyno as well)
Seriously, for those ppl who are worried about unplanned pregnancy, it is always better safe than sorry!!

As a male who is waiting anxiously as my girlfriend goes through this, this was very helpful and reassuring. She is a bit late, but has had no let-up of the usual PMS symptoms. She recently switched her bc pills and we were worried there might have been an error there that allowed her to get pregnant. Naturally, that has been stressing her out excessively. She took a test today and it came back negative, which eased my fears a bit and hers especially. I am hoping her stress level will come down now and she will have her period shortly.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I just recently came close to sex for the first time. I am not on birth control and I am extremely scared that I am pregnant. I am not sure of my regular period because I never had to watch for this before, being a virgin and all. But as of today, I am 8 days late and absolutely freaking out. So I am happy to see that stress can cause someone to be even 12 days late. I am praying that I am simply the same situation as you are and not pregnant.
