I had a total thyroidectomy on Feb 1st, 2008 and everyone says that my scar looks great and it's hardly noticable. It looks like its healed completely but when I wear a shirt that comes all the way up to my neck or when something rubs on my scar it itches SO bad. How long will this last?

it sounds bad but the itching is GOOD - which means your skin is healing. I found using a cool ice pack helped to ignore the itching, or a cool cloth.

You have to understand that like any other procedure this one also has some side effects that can happen after the procedure. The good thing is that your surgery went well and that healing is over as well. I think that you are lucky that you didn’t have any complications at all. Have you had any problems with your voice? I know that sometimes there might be some problems with your voice after the procedure. Now the itching that you have is just an issue with your skin. I think that your wound is still fresh and therefore it is easily irritable when it gets in contact with other materials. I think that this will pass after some time.
