Kathy,
I had one drained July of this year. I still have a bit of itching like it's still healing and I'm paranoid it's going to start again, but I don't have any pain. I definitely would talk to your doctor. Mine was the size of a golf ball when I had it incised and it was the most painful thing. (I remember it worse than childbirth!) I definitely would speak with your doctor.

Hey everyone. I just went to see a doctor today because of the painful bump on my left buttock. She immediately diagnosed it as an abscess. Fair warning here, you will have to have it lanced and drained. However, mine was still too firm and she couldn't get any of the pus out. If you are going to go to a doctor, make sure it has come to a head; that way, it can be properly lanced and drained. The lancing was definitely painful, hopefully it drains by itself within the next few days.

Hi Folks,

I had 3 past surgeries for perianal abcess. Few months back, i had the symptoms again in the form of a small bump. I came across a natural ayurvedic remedy when i searched the net (Thanks and God bless the kind heart) and it seems to be helping to prevent surgery at the very early stage. Perhaps you can try this but make sure you follow up with a doctor with antibiotics as well. 1) perform sitz bath twice a day. 2)apply the infected area with Bactroban antibacterial cream. 3) Swallow one teaspoonful of Ghee, mix 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder in a warm glass of  milk twice daily in the morning and night before sleep. 4) Ensure that you take lots of vegetables and fruits to prevent constipation. All the best and take care.

i dont think HIV is the problem i have had this condition i am age 19 now and have had theese since i was 7 years of age abcess are like boils (acne) i have recently discovered that the condition i have is called HIDRADENITIS SUPPURATIVA ....... This is a condition in which there are multiple abscesses that form under the armpits and often in the groin area and sometimes can occur in the buttocks area . These areas are a result of local inflammation of the sweat glands. This form of skin infection is difficult to treat with antibiotics alone and typically requires a surgical procedure to remove the involved sweat glands in order to stop the skin inflammation.

I was not given a choice.  I was given a general and had the abscess surigically drained.  My question is:  This is on the inner butt cheek...(in the crack).  I go to the clinic everyday after work to have it repacked.  the dressing doesn't stay on very well because of the location. Any suggestions????

My husband just had the right and left butt cheek lanced due to a abscess on both cheeks. He was in the hospital for 3 days on a lot of antibiotics and pain meds. Both cheeks had to be cleaned and packed every 3 days. At this time he is healing up good. But the Dr stated that the abscess was due to Diabetes.

Better late than never... Overnight maxi pads work well. Tape to inside of underpants. My son used after cyst removal from his buttocks.

It's a unpleasant condition bc right now I have it on my lower left butt cheeks and it kills. I had to go to the er 2 already first when they drained it the cut was small and the puss couldn't drain and the third day I was in so much pain that I went in to the er right away and I told them my situation and that the cut was too small so they numbed it and put an x on it and put a wick in the cut so it can obsorb the puss. It is so painful . I ended up with chills and fever

I just want to let you know you made me feel so much better because I happen to have the exact same issue except mine is right beside my vagina. Yeah i know how painful it becomes when it does decide it wants to act up. Just wanted to say thank you also because I have gone to 6 different doctors and they couldnt even tell me 6 years ago what it was. Ive gotten one on my arm and two on my buttocks. They're more irritting then anything but the one on my forarm was the most painful one by far i felt as if i got shot. Im very clean taking two showers a day so I dont understand why I keep getting them. Anyways thank u again for your stoies. This type of condition can be embarrassing and make one feel all alone.

Most butt abcesses are cause from ingrown hairs that then get infected!
