My son was diagnosed throath infection and peritonsillar abcess. His symptoms were high fever, cough and difficult swallowing. Doctor prescribed him antibiotics. He still breaths difficulty. I don’t know much about peritonsillar abcess. Please tell me something more.

Peritonsillar abscess usually affects children at the age of 5 and less. High fever, extremely sore throath, difficulty breathing and swallowing are common symptoms. Peritonsilar abscess requires immediate treatment to prevent complications. High dose of antibiotics administered intravenously are used in treatment of PA. Prognosis is positive, full recovery is expected after treatment.
