Hey Della Pearl, my name is Kirk. I would like to know why haven't you done DMA and visited gastroenterologist? Symptoms you are having are to be taken seriously, and I strongly advise you that you visit a specialist about your concern. Do whatever it takes, run blood tests, do a stool examination, full body examination. Also, very important thing to do is narrowing down the food that is making your distended abdomen worse. It might be an allergic reaction to some fruits, vegetables, also it could be some kind of a candy, or an ingredient in your food. Let us know how it went.

I recently had some of your symptoms. I have had 4 episodes since 2005 and the doctors that I saw told me that I had pulled a muscle. I believed them because I do workout and sometimes over exert myself. My last episode began on July 10. The pain began in my left shoulder and then moved to my back by the 11th. On the 12th I could barely breath because my chest was so tight. Next my abdomen began to swell and I felt like I was bloated, but it was a bit painful right under the sternum area. I then knew that this was no pulled muscle. After driving 11 hours back home, I took a Tylenol PM hoping to sleep through the night and see a doctor in the morning. My body said otherwise. 3 hours later I woke up vomiting. My husband rushed me to the ER and after a host of test and blood work, I was diagnosed with pericarditis, which is inflammation and fluid collecting in the sac that holds your heart and around your lungs. There are a variety of causes. The biggest two being Lupus or a virus. I am still awaiting my lab results as I was just released today. I believe mines was viral, because after an intravenous antibiotic the inflamation began to go down.
These are tests that I was given:
CAT scan
Xrays
EKG
Ultrasound of the heart
All these can see the fluid and the inflammation. I pray that you feel better and they find out what the problem is. Also look into Transverse Myelitis- it is an auto-immune disease that acts alot like MS. My younger brother has had this for 18 years now and with the right medication, he is doing well. It is hard to pin-point, but they found his through spinal tap. I will pray for you. God Bless

I have had this same type of pain and bloating feeling under breast bone and sternum area. I know I have a very large gallstone in this area and think it's due to my gallbladder. You mentioned your bowel movements were light in color. This may be due to a liver issue as my husband had the same problem and had to have a liver transplant.

have them check your liver. bloodwork can check liver enzyme levels. the liver sits across the chest just under the ribcage and liver disease can cause pain in various areas. gallstones can also cause some of these symptoms so I would ahve that checked also. put pressure on your docs to keep testing until they find an answer!

I have been experiencing a lot of the same symptoms as well. My doctors ordered an ultrasound of the gallbladder, thinking that was the cause, it came back borderline so I did go do the hidascan and that came back normal, my doctor and the gastro doc, dont have a clue on wha could be thr problem. They want more tests or possibly scans done. If you get an answer please reply as the symptoms are getting stronger and more frequent, and im unsure where to turn at this point. Im experiencing it now some as I type, feels like i can't breathe or eat, pain in upper back like im being crushed and below my sternum like a big ball of knots that cant move, stomach is distended, so uncomfortable.
