I've had this issue for years. They also found diverticuli. I will be just fine then it hits and I'm in severe abdominal pain, covered in sweat head to toe, can't hardly talk or breathe and have passed out several times. As soon as it hits if I can I run to bathroom and sit down and struggle for a rag to put under cold water and I hold it on my face and neck of I am strong enough too. I take fiber everyday and eat well balanced meals. I'm hoping they can figure it out. Usually in about 15-30 min I am able to move around but still a bit shaken and drained.

Oh, I hope I've finally found others with the same thing I have! I'm not sure.
I have had these colon attacks since childhood. The pain is unbearable. I beg it to stop. It comes in wave after wave, and I don't pass out, but I wish I could. I get unbearably hot, and my hands and my head sting like the circulation is cut off. I always get several bouts of diahrrea with it. After about 5-10 minutes, it calms down, but it starts again in a bit. Usually between 3 and 6 bouts in an hour period before it's over, and my stools have become pure liquid. I swear, I have PTSD from it. I have nightmares about these attacks.
Colonoscopies never show anything. Sometimes I think it's food related. Sometimes stress.
I have found relief in taking prescribed anti-spasm medication at the start of an attack, but I'm still terrified of them not working and having to go through another one.
Does this sound like anyone else's experience?

Yes, it does sound very much like my experience, as do the posts just above it.
I believe a lot of us have a root cause that is unrelated to other diagnoses we have received incidentally (such as IBS, diverticuli, etc.), which are quite common but don't usually lead to this type of attack.
My own research led me to info about issues with histamine (possibly a low tolerance), and mast cell activation disorder (MCAS). You can read about these, but in a nutshell, your body produces histamine for its basic functions, and you also get some naturally in foods. Some foods (fermented foods, leftovers, tomato foods, chocolate, cured meats, alcoholic drinks among them) either have high histamine content or cause histamine release in the body. Of course, an actual allergic reaction to a food will also cause histamine release in the gastrointestinal tract. If you are very sensitive to histamine (various causes for this), or have MCAS, this reaction to histamine can cause a chain reaction in the immune system, and lead to an anaphylactoid reaction including any of abdominal cramping & pain, diarrhea, vomiting, sweating, flushing, heart pounding, drop in blood pressure (fainting), trouble breathing and/or skin rash. I never have any issues with breathing or rash.
Please read up about MCAS and histamine sensitivity. I have resolved my symptoms by healing my gastrointestinal tract, avoiding trigger foods, and taking daily antihistamines. TIP: next time you feel an attack coming on, immediately take a full dose of liquid Benadryl (diphenhydramine). In my case, it stops the attack within about 4 minutes. There no risk in trying it out. If it works, you're likely dealing with a histamine issue or MCAS. Daily antihistamines might prevent attacks.

I'm pretty sure you're all describing POTS or a dysautonomia syncope disorder. It effects the vagus nerve, and horrible cramping is common. It happens with a sharp drop of bp when sitting to standing or exercise, etc

I also have these episodes. The first on for me happened when I was 21. I am 34 now and have had 5 or so episodes throughout the years. The first one I was rushed to the hospital and received 2 shots of epinephrine. After that I have not been to the ER. I did see a doctor a few years back and he said it might have something to do with my vagus nerve, which can overreact certain triggers that make people faint. I actually had an episode last night and it was pretty bad. Luckily my wife was there to help me out. I get very clammy and sweat a lot when it happens and my bowels feel like they are on fire. It's very painful. I don't know about anyone else but I feel that I do have a low tolerance for certain kinds of pain, so I feel like when my gut hurts that bad it triggers a shut down of my body. I also get very weak which makes it hard to talk and move. It has been about three years since I had an episode last night and I hope I never have another one. Luckily they only last about 10 minutes.

What you describe is something completely different than the lower abdomen cramping. I suffer from both of these. If you google cramping in anus you should come up with the name of this problem. Sadly there’s nothing that can be done and you never know when an episode is going to happen. Fortunately it doesn’t happen very often. Unless someone has ever experienced this you can’t begin to imagine the pain that you suffer through.

Sorry to hear there are so many who are suffering will this horrible issue! My experience is similar & started shortly after the birth of my first child at the age of 20. The cramping would start on my right side. The pain would persist a couple of days , then arch over my hip & down into my low back. The pain would be nauseating & I would have diarrhea. These attacks would usually occur only once a year. Then after my twins were born 2 years later, the attacks got more severe. It would began with the same pain in my right side & two days later moving to my lower back. At this point I would get a metallic taste in my mouth , have diarrhea & passout. This was so stressful on my body . When it was over I would be totally drained & take a few days to recuperate. I have been to the emergency room numerous times & they found nothing wrong. After the last attack , which was the worst of all...I thought I wouldn't make it thru it, the attacks stopped for 12 years. Then I started working at a chiropractors office & got free adjustments. Yes..the attack started back again. They were less severe. meaning I didn't get to the point of passing out. But I would have very odd smelling & loose stool. I would get so sick , my poor husband would have to hold me on the toilet. I would have the same urge to push as I was having a baby. I still get this occasionally. But it has changed again..now for the past 20 ish years I get what I have learned are colon cramps that can happen anywhere & last 15-30 minutes. I also started getting severe dizziness about 15 yrs ago . Having an attack usually once a year. But have had them as close as 2 weeks . I have always thought these attacks were all related if not the same & were somehow a result of the epidurals I had with child birth. Who knows????Sorry this was lengthy..but this was my story.

I'm 64 years old and have had the same symptoms and attacks for about 4 years. The cramping would start below my rib cage or my lower abdomen and then the pain is so excrutiating and so unbearable that I need to go the loo #2 but whilst there I pass out. Luckily for me it happens when I'm at home or it starts at about 12pm at night. My husband or children are always around to assist me because I don't know what I'll do should I be alone. I had a terrible episode yesterday which started after 12.30pm with terrible cramps, went to the ER at 6.00 pm was given Hyospasmol, Cyclizine for nausea and antibiotics. The pain would not subside and I went back the ER and they gave me 2 imjections 1 for the pain and 1 for the nausea. I also passed out. Eventually the pain went away but what a terrible experience. It's difficult for the doctors to understand what the problem is.

I also have been experiencing these since I was a teenager. I am now 58. I was at first told they were stomach muscle cramps but was later told by my gastro is that they are intestinal cramps. He prescribed a dissolving under the tongue of Hyoscomine Sulfate to take when the attacks occur. I also find that twisting or turning my torso a certain way will bring them on. Sometimes on one side or the other, sometimes both. I turn white and pass out.

This happened to me for the first time when I was in 7th grade. I'm 50 now and it's happened 3 times in the past 3 years. This is the first time I've heard of someone having the same symptoms. Last night I actually passed out. Out of all these replies, this one sounds the most accurate to me. Thank you.

Hi,
Very same as my symptoms mainly if I deviate from a fairly strict alkaline diet or get very stressed.i suffered for hours with the pain & feeling about to pass out & clammy.Eventually I found some solpodeine in the meds box & they worked within about 1/2 hr.Bladdder area was still very sensitive but no matter ,pain was gone, relief lasted about 6 hrs, hope this helps as I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
