This happened to me barely and I found out that is when I drink milk at night before going to bed it's an awful experience, I don't wish it to anyone. What helps me is to slow my heart rate by taking deep slow breaths and drinking water or Gatorade to help my electrolytes. also praying to God make me more calm. just don't freak out or you get worse when its happening to you.

An amazing solution to this is to make orange peel tea. Literally put orange peel in hot water and drink it. It sends it away pretty rapidly.

I would I highly recommend

All I did was organise the first ever Farmers Market for our little town & I have had a spasm in my gut ever since! That was 8 days ago so even though the market was a great success the damage was done through stress worrying about it! I have had these symptoms before when stressed over something but they never lasted more than 3 days after the event was over! The spasm is always across the floor of the abdomen & up till now red wine seems to be the only thing that eases it or masks it, but hell I dont want to be an alcoholic because of all this!  I am trying some mag phos tissue salts tonight so fingers crossed!

I have exactly the same symptoms and have experienced this since I was a teen. I recently started working in a surgery center and one of the nurses mentioned Vasovagal Syncope.  So here we have two events rolling into one.  The first is the pain. We all know what it feels like, but no doctor can explain it, then we have the Vasovagal response to the pain itself. Vasovagal reflex in our case is triggered by the pain. The sweating, nausea, lightheadedness, and weakness are signs that you are about to pass out. Now you're sitting on the toilet and the last thing you want to do is lay down, but if you can lay down as soon as you fell the first symptom, you can stop the Vasovagal "attack." Vasovagal reflex causes the blood vessels in the legs to dialate which causes the blood to "pool" in your legs, when you lay down (or passout) gravity is no longer causing this to happen and your blood pressure returns to normal.

Signs and symptoms

Among people with vasovagal episodes, the episodes are typically recurrent, usually happening when the person is exposed to a specific trigger. Prior to losing consciousness, the individual frequently experiences a prodrome of symptoms such as lightheadedness, nausea, the feeling of being extremely hot (accompanied by sweating), ringing in the ears (tinnitus), uncomfortable feeling in the heart, fuzzy thoughts, a slight inability to speak/form words (sometimes combined with mild stuttering), weakness and visual disturbances such as lights seeming too bright, fuzzy or tunnel vision, and sometimes a feeling of nervousness can occur as well. These last for at least a few seconds before consciousness is lost (if it is lost), which typically happens when the person is sitting up or standing. When sufferers pass out, they fall down (unless this is impeded); and when in this position, effective blood flow to the brain is immediately restored, allowing the person to regain consciousness. Short of fainting a person may experience an almost indescribable weak and tired feeling resulting from a lack of oxygen to the brain due to a sudden drop in blood pressure. Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary[3] describes this as the "feeling of impending death" caused by expansion of the aorta, drawing blood from the head and upper body.

Wow so I;m not crazy ! This morning, almost immediately after I had a bowel movement I started to experience absolutely excruciating pain, it hurt to walk and would radiate. I tried to walk a little bit and it kept getting worse so I sat down for a bit. I was nauseous and thought I would vomit but I didnt and then upon standing i got so lightheaded I thought I was gonna pass out but I made it to the couch. The pain was in my lower abdomen/uterus/colon area and it was constant but it would becoming shooting pain every few mins and then my lower back felt really hot. It was so sudden I didnt know what to think. I had been slightly constipated the day before. I went to the hospital they took a urine spec, bloodwork and xray and they found nothing. THe doctor said it was probably bowel cramps and told me on the can I showed up as quite constipated even though I wasnt and suggested that I incorporate more fibre in my diet. He suggested metamucil. ANd they gave me Buscapane, an anti-spasmodic, as well as Toradol for pain and gravol for nausea. Made me drowsy as hell but the pain got better, I tink it also helped to keep the area warm. Anyways hope it doesnt happen again and was good to read I'm not alone ! Thnks for all the advice !

I too have sufferred from many of the symptoms listed. I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome after many tests including a colonoscopy showed nothing. The pain starts and I have to run to the bathroom and know what is going to happen. One thing that I find that helps, although it may sound strange, is breathing into a plastic bag. I have passed out cold on several occasions, as well as get stiff through the arms. My Doctor told me it was like I was hyperventilating, even if I wasn't breathing rapidly. By breathing into the bag, it also helps the cramps a bit too and focuses you on your breathing and it helps.

i have experienced the same feeling, i would feel as if i had to go to the bathroom and some of the times i did, but when i would finish or get close to finishing and it would feel like if i broke my tail bone, from there down i would go weak also my intestines started to feel as if they were twisting so i would have to fall to the floor and spread out to stop the pain. its been at least a year since the last attack but i have also kept up on my hydration and started eating regularly and watching my sleeping schedule. water has been the only way ive known to stop it and my main triggers are lack of hydration, lack of sleep, and stress

I have something similar to all your posts but have been diagnosed with gastritis, however this was mild but I had chronic inflammation but 8 months later it has got so bad.  I get abdominal pain and I feel a lump in my abdomen above my navel, when I push it, it makes me feel like I am pushing something right up into my stomach and I get some wind, its soooo painful.  I have also been diagnosed with IBS, but only have the bowel pain but no other symptoms.  Stress does make things worse and I get a lot of pain around my tail end and have to straighten up to make the pain go away.  I am trying to see a gastric consultant again as its dreadful, I hope you don't progress further with it, go see someone straight away or the stress will make you worse like it did for me.

I have experienced these same pains twice in the last 3 months! It's the first time it started happening. However, mine occurred during or after sex? Any idea if its related to the same problem? My second one happened just the other day. I felt excruciating pain went to get up to go to the bathroom, and everything want black. I started to have cold sweat, I was dizzy and shaky. Couldn't breathe or talk. It was the worst pain I have ever experienced. It also feels like a knife stabbing me in the anus (sorry for tmi). 3 hours later I still had pain in my lower abdomen, that now felt like a sharp, knife like stabbing right in the center of my lower abdomen. Didn't go away until I took pain killers and fell asleep. I have no why these pains occur. I kept thinking mine had something to do with sex. Or maybe a UTI or kidney infection. No idea, it's just horrible pain. I am a female btw, 23 years old.

There is a nerve that connects the brain to the gut called the vagal nerve. It is suppose to regulate blood flew to the gut. When it gets over stimulated.by bowel gas, alcohol, inflammation, fluid build from menstral cycle, all kinds of things, it can cause all the symptoms people are describing. From extreme pain to passing out! It is more common than people realize, but not immediately thought of or diagnosed since it can cause a while host of seemingly unrelated symptoms. Mention the vagal nerve to your doctor. Sometimes this nerve has to be cut when it causes extreme problems. This problem with the nerve can be treated usually and rarely required this nerve to be cut.

I have experienced this sudden horrific night pain since I was a child.  I never told anyone about it because it woke me up in the middle of the night and would pass within minutes, occur seldom, and most of all I was embarrassed by the nature of this pain.  I have suffered from this secret night pain for 40 years and tonight had an episode where I found myself on the floor, downstairs.  Tonight I did a little research on this and here is what i found;

There is no cure and this happens more often with females than with males and i am a male.  I can't image those who suffer from this during the day.   It's kind of strange that tonight, after finding a clinical name for this dreadful night pain, i find others like me who experience this and that I am not alone.
