----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay , so about 2 weeks ago I started having heartburn and burning in my mid-torso right below my rib cage . I took many alka-seltzer tablets and they worked...for all of 2 hours . I'm constantly constipated and laxatives take forever to work . But when I'd actually used the bathroom or when the laxatives start to work , it wouldn't be much or at least not enough to fully relieve me . And then I would always get the urge to go , but nothing would come out ! But anyways , about a few days ago I started having REALLY bad heartburn . It was so bad , I didn't go to sleep until 4 in the morning and when I finally did go to sleep , I would go in and out of sleep . I had to sleep on the couch to remain upright . And my neck would hurt so bad , like someone took something really hot and put it on my neck ! That night was the most agonizing night of my life ! The burning was in my chest ,my mid-torso (as before) , and my back . The next night was the same , just not as bad and my neck didn't hurt . But I had really bad nausea , which is pure terror for an emetophobic . So my mom thought it was my gallbladder , based on the symptoms I was having...buring in mid-torso , nausea , heartburn , pain radiates to back , constipation . So , I went to the doctor (which was really just a nurse practioner) to get a phsyical and to tell them about my pain . Everything looked great with the phsyical--they found nothing wrong except that my iron level was low . I told them about my problem and they put me on Prevacid to help with the acid . That night , I felt fine . I kind of had the burning in my torso , but it came and went . I was actually able to sleep in my bed ! And today , I felt nothing . Why have my symptoms came and gone ? I thought I would have to get my gallbladder removed ! Should I still go to the gastro-whatever doctor ? I'm scared that I have "silent" gallstones . Was that pain I was feeling that agonizing night really the passing of a gallstone ? Would it pass through my stools or urine ? I haven't pooped since i-don't-know-when ! PLEASE HELP !

yes you shoudl still go see another dr. they will have to do a ultrasound on your ribs/belly to see if it is you gallbladder.i just started having pain in my right chest area, kinda feels like its under my ribs and i started throwing up for a while, i went to the ER and they did a ultra sound and my gallbladder is filled with gallstones and im getting surgery in 4 days to get it removed.

you should get it checked out. and the surgery isnt that bad they go through your belly button and the recovery isnt long (atleast thats what i hear)

You should definitly see a gastro-enterologist to deal with that.  Untreated gallstones are VERY painful and may lead to vomiting.  I am not emetophobic but I do have anxiety issues when I become nauseous.

Don't fret, you will most likely have a tube down into your stomach out of surgery (which will make it sure you won't be sick because it sucks the bile right out!) You can always request it too but I think it's a necessity so bile doesn't build up in your stomach so soon after surgery.   The overall healing and recovery process wasn't all that long for me, after two or three weeks, I was back to my normal life minus some light pain sometimes that eventually goes away after a few more days.

One tip though, when you come out of surgery, stick to soup!  soup will be your best friend!  And don't worry if you don't really go to the bathroom after a few days, it takes time for the bowel to get a kick start!

Now, as a warning, you MIGHT feel nauseous after the surgery, a few months later.  It's normal in my opinion, you have to get used to a whole new diet and living method.   The chances you will be sick are small though, I've been sick twice since I had my gallbladder removed (I was 11, I'm now 26, make the count!) and it was because of the stomach flu.  Most people I personally know rarely ever throw up as well and that includes 2 of my cousins and one IS emetophobic just like you.

It's very important that you see your doctor.  The initial pain of the surgery, if you ever need it, is nothing compared to the nights of sleep you gain along the way!

Good Luck!
